The SJAM Winter Trail is collecting cleaned up Christmas Trees for use as a windbreak. Yes, your #xmas2020 tree still have a lot more lovin’ to give! Your little sweet heart can spend the rest of the winter sheltering the wind and making this rest area, or what we call the #NordicVillage, a winter’s paradise. @NCC_CCN
We are accepting your recycled Christmas Trees at 2 locations:
Remic Rapids Park
Champlain Park
Many thanks, these trees will be further recycled as mulch after the winter season.
From one of our neighbours:
We found this Pandora bracelet on January 14 near the corner of Amanda and Carleton and would love to reconnect it with its owner. If you can identify the bead that is concealed, then it must be yours! Please contact me via the webmaster.

Following up on the story two months later on March 18th:
The Pandora bracelet that my daughter found has been reunited with its owner, a Champlain Park resident. Funnily enough, the owner saw one of the posters we put up on various telephone poles around the neighbourhood, but it took over six weeks before she noticed it! As you can imagine, she was thrilled to get it back.

A Peregrine Falcon lives in Champlain Park too, when it is not roosting in a tower at Tunney’s Pasture. This photo from 12:45 today shows the endangered species sitting in one the community Heritage oaks feeding on a small bird it had captured, while a black squirrel looks on. Viewed through binoculars I could see the feathers flying as it feasted. A second photo from the fall shows a Perigrine Falcon on a Daniel avenue back railing.
We are blessed with biodiversity in our neighborhood. What have you seen today that shows the natural world in all its haunting beauty?

Please get your picks for the hockey pool in to Nick by this Thursday evening. See the hockey pool post for details.
Just a quick note to say the rink is now iced up and fully open as of this morning. We have three areas – the hockey rink inside the boards, a circular skating loop rink outside the boards and a “puddle” rink over the baseball diamond.
Thanks to the team of volunteers for getting it into shape, lead by Matt.
Be aware of the city COVID rules, rough summary: masks required and distancing (crowd limits too) and no team sports.

Just a FYI that the NCC has some design ideas about Westboro Beach and wants public feedback, until January 18th.

A message from the new librarian to our neighbourhood (was addressed to the CPCA board, but the general parts are worth repeating here). By the way, I was there yesterday dropping off a book. They now have a desk just inside the front door, with a plexiglass shield, where they will take your returned books or give you books you’ve ordered online.

Subject: Update from the Rosemount branch of the OPL
Date: Wed, 6 Jan 2021 20:58:14 +0000
From: Sirett, Kelly <kelly.sirett@biblioottawalibrary.ca>
Hello,
My name is Kelly Sirett and I’m the new Supervising Librarian at the Rosemount branch of the Ottawa Public Library. […]
I’m writing to introduce myself, provide an update on the Rosemount branch, and to connect with your organization. To tell you a bit about myself, I have been working at the OPL since 2014, most recently as the Coordinator of the Sunnyside branch in Old Ottawa South. I live in Hintonburg, love this neighbourhood and am excited to be working in this community.
As you may know, the Rosemount branch temporarily closed its permanent location (at 18 Rosemount) in Spring 2019 for major renovations. During the renovations, the branch operated out of a temporary location on Wellington Street. Like for everyone else, COVID has caused to major changes in Library services. Since July, Rosemount has been offering holds pick up and returns in a variety of ways, depending on provincial regulations. We moved back into our permanent location at 18 Rosemount in early December. While we are operating only on the first floor of the building & with limited services (currently curbside holds pick up and returns), staff are very happy to be back “home”! For more information on current services and hours, please visit our website: https://biblioottawalibrary.ca/en
