Drive-through Restaurant at 70 Richmond Road

Subject: Drive-through, 70 Richmond Road

From: Heather Pearl <hpearl2012@gmail.com>

Please note that the Champlain Park Executive does not object to the proposal to build a restaurant in this location. We object to building a drive-through facility, which is not allowed under the Traditional Mainstreet zoning and which would be a dangerous addition at an already dangerous intersection.

Residents of Champlain Park are welcome to discuss the issues and write their own letters to the Planner in charge, Andrew McCreight, and Councillor Jeff Leiper. Jeff is working with the surrounding communities on this issue.

Thank you,
Heather

Dear Mr. McCreight:

The Champlain Park Community Association (CPCA) objects strongly to the proposed drive-through component of the proposed restaurant at 70 Richmond Road.

The attached letter outlines our concerns.

We would appreciate your recommendation to Planning Committee, and their subsequent recommendation to Council, to reject Zoning By-law Amendment request D02-02-16-0017 for 70 Richmond Rd.

Thank you,

Heather Pearl

Proposed Traffic Congestion and Roads Pricing Study at next CPCA Meeting – March 17

You are invited:

When: On March 17th at 7:30pm.

A proposed road tolls study will be the first item of business at the CPCA Executive meeting at the Champlain Park field-house. A complete CPCA Agenda will be sent out shortly.

Why: To discuss whether the CPCA Executive should join other community associations in recommending that City Council commission a study on traffic congestion and road pricing in conjunction with the next Transportation Master Plan Update.

It’s an important issue, one that will eventually impact all residents, regardless of what is done or not done.

What: We want your views, either on-line in response to this notice or, better still, at the March 17th session.

Background: There’s been recent media coverage on the deteriorating state of Ottawa’s roads and of ever-increasing city-wide congestion. Councillor Chernushenko has tabled a motion with the Transportation Committee of Council proposing that the City authorize a study “of different user-pay pricing approaches as a means of reducing urban congestion and encouraging a modal shift away from private vehicle use as well as meeting the increased costs of maintaining City roads”.

Councillor Chernushenko’s motion also proposes the the most feasible and effective options identified in the proposed study be included as recommendations in the Transportation Master Plan update.

Mayor Watson has come out against a study of the issue. Others would prefer the matter to be studied to better enable Council to make a fact-based decision as to how best to pay for the repair of deteriorating roads and to deal with the increasingly negative consequences and costs of ever growing City-wide congestion.

Champlain Park Fieldhouse @ 7:15 PM

Election of Officers and Call for Volunteers

  • You can ask to be nominated for any of the positions listed in the attached organizational chart
  • Names of current nominees are listed on the chart. Most are current executive members who are willing to stay on.
  • However we are actively seeking new board members.
Some positions can be shared as there is always plenty to do. For example, we have 2 Co-Chairs.
  • We also have an executive position called “Member at Large”. This allows people to be on the executive without a specific “portfolio” and to contribute in a variety of ways as per your interests. Some of our current board members started as Member at Large and then “specialized”.
  • Please see the organizational chart to get some ideas of how you might contribute if you are interested in becoming an executive member or non-executive volunteer.
  • If you are thinking of joining the executive/board in the future, attending some of our open executive meetings (advertised on our website) is a good way to familiarize yourself with the work of the community association.

Contact (for info or to be added to the slate of executive/board member nominees for the election):
CoChair1 champlainpark@gmail.com, (leave name, phone number, position/type of volunteer work of interest)

  • Coordinators for next year’s Halloween party are needed; this year it did not happen due to lack of volunteers to co-ordinate. Contact Carol Arnason carol.arnason@ocsb.ca
  • Membership Drive happens in the spring and is an important source of revenue for the association. We need door to door canvassers, who each take on a block or two of homes. Contact Boris Jacouty bjacouty@gmail.com

4th Annual Champlain Park Halloween Run!

This year’s run on Saturday Oct.31st at 9:45a.m. takes runners through a wooded trail between Champlain Park and the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway – one loop of approximately 800 meters for little legs (4 and under) and one longer and more challenging loop of approximately 2 km for the 5 and ups.

Suggested entry fee is $5 (or whatever you can afford) and 100% of the funds go to Right to Play.  No registration required.

VOLUNTEERS: Our biggest requirement for volunteers is as on-course Marshals who can keep kids safe and on the right trail.

Marshals will be asked to meet beside the Champlain Park play structure at 9:00 a.m. for a brief meeting and a walk to their race position (race begins at 9:45ish). One Marshal will be nominated as the ‘sweep’ and follow the last runner through the course collecting Marshals as they return to the Park.

Cookies etc.., juice boxes or refreshments would be great if you can bring them. There will be muffins of course (:

To volunteer please go to the following link and sign-up:

Kids are encouraged to come in costume (something easy to run in).

Event will take place rain or shine (please shine, please…).
