Halloween Fun Run Wrap-up

A big thank-you to all of the runners and their supporters who came out yesterday to the 9th Annual Champlain Park Dress-up Fun Run.

Thanks to their generosity, we managed to raise $710 for the Kichi Sibi https://www.wintertrail.ca/ winter trail. The weather also cooperated to make it one of the driest and most pleasant in memory.

Thanks to all of our volunteers including the CPCA for sponsoring the event with prizes and snacks.

Byron Path Pumpkin Parade

One way of many for getting rid of your pumpkin is to put it on the Byron pathway. As described in https://allevents.in/mobile/amp-event.php?event_id=200023501679326:

Byron Path Pumpkin Parade
Tue Nov 01 2022 at 06:00 pm

On November 1st, bring your Halloween pumpkins to the Byron Linear Tramway Park (along the pathway between Island Park Drive and Granville Avenue). Come back between 6 and 10 p.m. to walk a path of glowing pumpkins. Candles will be provided, but extra tea lights always appreciated.

Big thanks to event sponsors: Wellington West BIA, Wellington Village Community Association, and the Wellington Street West Giant Tiger.

Everyone is welcome! Please help spread the word.

Halloween Fun Run – October 29

Enthusiastic organizer, Peter Laughton, led the 2019 2km runners by bicycle on the SJAM trail through Champlain woods.

Champlain Park is once again hosting its annual fun run through the Champlain Woods on Saturday October 29, 2022 at 9:30 am. Runners 5 years old and under run an 800 meter loop and runners 5 and over run on a 2k path through the Woods. Prizes will be awarded for best costume and top 3 finishers per age category. All participants receive a candy medal. Donations of $10 or more per runner are encouraged but not required and funds this year go to the Kichi Sibi Winter Trail (c/o Dovercourt Community Centre). No registration is required; just show up in costume and run. Parents or guardians must accompany and supervise children at the event.

Come out and run and send a message to kids in the community that Halloween can be about more than just sugary treats! Volunteers are welcomed as finish line coordinators or on course Marshalls. Donations of food and drink are also welcomed. Contact peterlaughton@rogers.com if you are able to help.

Halloween Pumpkin and House Decoration Contest Winners

The votes are in and the winners for the Champlain Park Halloween decorating contests are:

Best decorated house: 244 Keyworth – The Keyworth Institute Night Care!

An impressive immersive experience including creepy decorations, an award-winning scary Chucky doll performance, invitations to pet spooky rats, etc…that certainly sent many of us home with nightmares…

[Driveway scene with scary kid actors]

Best decorated pumpkin: 20 Clearview – with an impressive 4 decorated pumpkins including a dog skeleton and a Picasso woman.

It was a very tough competition this year with dragons, zombies, ghosts, witches and ill-fated mannequins entertaining the residents of Champlain Park!

Congrats to the winners and a big thank you to all those who participated in the contest either by decorating their houses and pumpkins or by voting for their favourites.

And finally a heartfelt thank you to the Wellington West BIA for their donation of the prizes: each winner received a $50 gift certificate to a Wellington West business of their choice.

Up next: Stay tuned for future posts on the 2nd annual Champlain Park Holiday house decorating contest and the Holiday Charity Auction.
