On April 2, the Owners of the property and the Rep. from Champlain Park asked the Committee of Adjustment to adjourn the Application, to allow time for consultation with the community to take place. An adjournment until May 21 was granted.

Deluxia Homes Inc. and Miroca Design Inc. invite Champlain Park residents to view and discuss their proposal to build two new single family homes at 260 Carleton Avenue.

Update on Ottawa Mosque Site and Landscape Plans

This is an update to last year’s May 25th notice.

  • Last May, we were notified that the previously approved site plan and landscape plan for the Ottawa Mosque on 251 Northwestern, which had lapsed due to lack of funds, would go forward.
  • At that time, we posted the site and landscape plans and the following information on the web site.
    • Part B on the landscape plan pertains to the new lands, which are not currently landscaped.
    • The plan is to landscape them now and also to build catch basins.
    • Since this was previously reviewed and approved, including by Champlain Park Community Association (CPCA), the City of Ottawa does not feel another public review is required.
    • However, at our request, they did allow our CPCA Development Committee to view it again, as it has been dormant since 2008.
    • The CPCA Development Committee thinks the attached landscape plan, which includes paving, parking space markings and plantings, including a variety of trees, will greatly enhance the site.
  • The plans now are due to go to City Council for final approval.

Spring Cleanup 2014 – May 3

LIFE’S MESSY.

MAY 3 WE CLEAN IT UP.

Champlain Park is looking for volunteers for our annual Spring Cleanup. The snow is finally melting, and trash accumulated over a long winter has started to appear.

The cleanup, part of the City’s Cleaning the Capital campaign, is a chance for neighbours of all ages – kids, teens, and adults – to get together, say hello, and help spruce up the neighbourhood. Last year 33 people showed up – a wonderful turnout.

We’ll meet at the fieldhouse on Saturday, May 3 at 10 a.m. Juice, coffee, and cookies will be served. There is a map so that people can choose an area to work on. We’ll wrap up by noon. In case of rain, we’ll meet instead on Sunday, May 4.

The designated cleanup areas are the south side of Premier above the transitway; the boulevard on Northwestern and the path at its north end; and the areas along the fence on Patricia and Pontiac. It can also include the area along the river at the foot of Carleton, or any other public spaces you think could use some help.

We recommend wearing pants and long-sleeved shirts, appropriate footwear and gloves. The City will provide garbage bags.

Canada Post announced on December 11 that all door-to-door delivery would be terminated across Canada, something that no country has ever done. Their plan begins as early as this fall in Kanata. Will Kitchissippi be next?

This is an issue that Kitchissippi / Ward 15 residents care deeply about. All residents, but especially seniors and persons with disabilities, depend on and benefit from home mail delivery. A growing number of mayors, city councils, and other elected leaders are expressing their opposition to Canada Post’s announcement.

Please come out to attend this open, Town Hall meeting to discuss what is happening, how our municipal and other elected representatives have responded, and what we might do in the coming months to defend OUR home delivery.

The types of reports that are currently being accepted online are:

  • Lost Vehicle Licence Plates
  • Theft (Under $5000)
  • Lost Property (Under $5000)
  • Mischief/Damage to Property (Under $5000)
  • Theft from Vehicle (Under $5000)

The first 2 attached documents are the CPCA exec motion to support the revised by-law and the presentation given by CoChair1 at the Planning Committee meeting.

The 3rd document is the report by Planning and Growth Management that went to Planning Committee on March 25. The 4th document is the current version of the infill by-law.

Note that the strictest provisions between the original version of the infill by-law (2012) and the comprehensive zoning by-law (2008) are in effect until the revised by-law is reviewed and enacted by the OMB.

CoChair1, will attend a follow-up meeting organized by the Planning and Growth Management Department that includes some community representatives and representatives of the building/development community, to further refine the technical details of the By-law before it goes to City Council for final approval in May.
