Planning Workshop for a Linear Park Along the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway – May 27

In case anyone has some good ideas for improving the river park…

Planning Workshop for a Linear Park Along the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway

Hello,

The National Capital Commission (NCC) is exploring the possibility of creating a linear shoreline park on lands between Preston Street and Carling Avenue to enhance the green space along the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway. We would like to invite a representative from your organization to participate in a planning workshop to explore this idea. The workshop will be held on May 27.

The purpose of the workshop is to consider various ways to transform sections of the Ottawa River shoreline corridor into a park. The aim is to make this corridor a space that people visit more often and that is more accessible to the public for a variety of uses, while also ensuring unimpeded access to the river for the neighbouring communities.

This workshop is part of the development of the Capital Urban Lands Master Plan and Parkways Policy, and follows on public consultations that were held in March. Participants will have an opportunity to contribute toward the development of this idea by helping the NCC to define a vision and principles that will guide further consideration of the park, as well as the activities and uses that would be suitable for the space, considering its importance to the Capital.

The workshop will take place as follows.

Date: Tuesday, May 27, 2014, 7 pm to 9:30 pm
Location: NCC Headquarters, 40 Elgin Street, 5th Floor, Capital Urbanism Lab/Studio

Agenda
Introduction 7 pm to 7:15 pm
Workshop 7:15 pm to 8:30 pm
Plenary 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm

Please confirm your attendance before May 23. Contact Jocelyne Moncion, Public and Community Relations Officer, at 613‑239‑5678, ext.Β 5106, or jocelyne.moncion@ncc-ccn.ca.

Yew tree up for grabs

Hi all, 68 Pontiac is undergoing some major work in the next few weeks, and there is a small Yew tree in the front yard that we have not had time to transplant. If anyone would like to take it, please help yourself in digging it out, today or tomorrow would be good days to do so. We are keeping the maple tree though.

Thanks! Erin

Dear Sir / Madam:

Re:Β Β Β Β Β  Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) – Preliminary Design and Environmental Assessment Study for the Rehabilitation / Replacement of Ottawa Queensway Mid-town Bridges from Holland Avenue to O’Connor Street (G.W.P. 4075-11-00)

Public Information Centre #1

THE STUDY

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has retained Morrison Hershfield Ltd. (MH) to undertake a preliminary design and environmental assessment study for the rehabilitation and / or replacement of twenty-three bridges (twelve locations) on Highway 417 (Ottawa Queensway) from Holland Avenue to O’Connor Street, in the City of Ottawa. This study will determine the appropriate strategy for the rehabilitation or replacement of the bridges. The study areas are shown on the map below.

Description: Study Area Map report - English 10-21-2013

Several alternatives will be reviewed for each bridge including structural and construction staging options in order to minimize disruption to the Queensway. In addition, engineering, environmental, and property requirements will be established, along with the identification of mitigation measures to reduce or negate short and long term residual effects.

THE PROCESSΒ

This study is following the Class Environmental Assessment for Provincial Transportation Facilities (2000) planning process for a Group β€œB” project, with the opportunity for external agency and public consultation throughout the project.

You are invited to attend the first of two Public Information Centres (PICs) with the purpose of introducing the project, explaining the study process, and presenting an assessment of planning solutions (Rehabilitation vs. Replacement) and the preliminary design alternatives. There will be an opportunity to discuss any concerns with MTO staff and members of the consulting team and to provide written comments (to be submitted to the study team by June 6, 2014.)Β  Please join us at the PIC scheduled on:

Date: Thursday, May 22, 2014

Time: 4:00PM – 8:00PM – Presentation at: 6:30 PM

Location: St. Anthony’s Banquet Hall at 523 St. Anthony Street, Ottawa

Accessible location in accordance with Ontarians with Disability Act

A second PIC will be scheduled to present the technical recommendations and mitigation plan to agencies and members of the public; to obtain comments; and to discuss any concerns with regards to the proposed undertaking. A letter notifying you of the date, time, and location of the second PIC will be sent directly to you along with notification published in The Ottawa Citizen and le Droit and provided on the project website at www.queenswaymidtownbridges.com.

Omnibus Zoning Amendment

For more recent news, see the update to this post.

Subject: Omnibus zoning amendment
Date: Tue, 6 May 2014 13:20:43 +0000
From: CoChair1

http://ottawa.ca/en/city-hall/public-consultations/planning-and-infrastructure/omnibus-and-anomaly-amendments

Please see attached link related to a City meeting that contains a proposal relevant to our community.

There is an item related to increase of front yard set-backs from 3 metres to 6 metres for Champlain Park.

The CPCA worked with the Planning Department to introduce this amendment during the recent Infill I (By Law 2012-147) consultations. This proposed change will complement the revised mature neighbourhoods overlay (By Law 2012-147) which introduced a “front yard averaging” provision that in most cases has resulted in approximate 6 metre set-backs for our infill proposals.

I will be following this issue and obtaining further information.

Champlain Park Community Association

Amendments to the front yard setback requirements in Champlain Park to better reflect the existing setbacks, affecting lands bounded by Pontiac Street to the north, Premier Avenue to the south, Island Park Drive to the west, and Northwestern Avenue to the east (including properties on the east side of Northwestern Avenue), Ward 15, Change of intent

An amendment is needed to the R1P and R2D subzones in a portion of Champlain Park, to increase the minimum required front and corner side yard setback requirements to ensure they better reflect the actual setbacks of the buildings on the street. The minimum required front yard setback is proposed to be increased from 3 metres to 6 metres, and the corner side yard setback is proposed to be increased from 3 metres to 4.5 metres.
