Book Club Inaugural Meeting – September 19

Amy Steele Kempster is setting up a book club. An inaugural meeting is set for Tuesday September 19th at 2pm, to decide on how to run the club and to find out how much interest there is.

They need to decide on things like:

When should the meetings be (likely on Tuesdays at 2pm since that’s available) and how often (monthly, weekly, bi-weekly)?
What sort of books should they read? Fiction, non-fiction, or specific genres. Or have the members choose books on a rotation basis.
Should they take turns reading and discussing a book, particularly if multiple copies aren’t available, or wait for everyone to have read it before discussing?

Day One in the Post-Car Era – on Pontiac

Hours after planters were installed on Pontiac as part of the Park extension/depaving project, a new temporary public use has taken shape. It inspires me to dream about a time when cars as we know them will no longer rule (and pollute) the land.

Champlain Oaks Available for Planting

Daniel Buckles writes:

I have a small number of Bur Oak saplings grown from seed of the oldest and biggest trees in our neighbourhood. The saplings are direct descendants from the ancient oak forest viewed by Champlain in 1613 and that lined the Ottawa River following the last great Ice Age. Contact me if you have a plantable spot and would like to establish one of these trees.

Just a reminder that Fall Activities are starting soon. There are:

The Bridge Club – Wednesdays at 2pm, starting on September 13.
A new Fitness Class – Mondays at 6:45pm, starting on September 11.
The Garden Club – Meets monthly on the second Tuesday, starting on September 12.
Karate Classes – Wednesdays at noon, starting on September 6.
Karate for Seniors – Tuesdays at 10am, starting on September 5.
Mindful Movement and Meditation Classes – Mondays at 5:30pm, starting on October 2.
Yoga Classes – Wednesdays at 6:30pm, starting on September 13.

Planning Primer Course – September 16

If you’re interested in learning about the city’s planning process, the “Planning Primer I” class is being offered on a few days, starting on September 16th.
