2018 Planning Primer Program Registration

The next Planning Primer I classes for residents will be on January 13 and 15. Details and sign-up at https://ottawa.ca/en/city-hall/planning-and-development/community-involvement/planning-primer

The Planning and Growth Management Department offers the Planning Primer Program to help residents become more aware of, and more involved in, the land-use planning process. The program is a series of half-day courses. The content of these Primer courses is the same as those offered in previous years. The courses are offered in English only. Please send your questions to primer@ottawa.ca

Our Outdoor Rink is now Open!

The ODR is officially open and ready for the fun times to begin with friends and family.

So dust off your skates, dress warm and have fun.

Many thanks to Jim Kot and his rink volunteers for their hard work in making this ready for the holidays.

Two volunteers (one large, one small, offside, thanks!) are currently (2017.12.30, 1pm) dusting off this morning’s powdery snow. Gates are open, the net awaits!

SJAM Winter Trail arrives at Champlain Park

As you are well aware closing down a road, taking down part of an NCC fence to make for more park land is not a trivial matter but this has been accomplished with the efforts of many folks.

The Sir John A. Macdonald Winter Trail in Champlain Park has just opened unofficially, the initial grooming was done last Thursday afternoon to pack down the snow. Once we have more snow the classic X-ski tracks will be laid.

The SJAM – Champlain Park trail portion is a reality; it now crosses Pontiac Street (closed portion of Pontiac) into our park leading up to the Champlain Park Fieldhouse from Champlain Woods.

Roads in the Woods – Pontiac and Other Street Expansion Plans

When you walk in the woods, you may encounter a few house foundations and manholes. They are hints of past development and ancient plans. I recently came across an old map that explains them.

There’s a 1930s manhole on Pontiac, west of Patricia, obviously part of Pontiac when it existed there. You can easily walk over it since the forest path goes over the old road. I should really get a photo of it, but it’s currently too cold and snowy outside to do that.

Community Sleigh Ride a Great Success

Following up on the sleigh ride, first some thanks from Champlain Park neighbours to organizers Jim Cocks, Tom Sauve, and Dennis Van Staalduinen for leading us through the neighbourhood singing Christmas carols on a horse drawn wagon with a stop at Santa’s house for candy canes. We jingled all the way!! Thank you to the volunteer elves. Thank you to the sponsors of this free event, the Champlain Park Community Association, Bridgehead and the West Wellington Business Improvement Area. Thank you to many volunteers who donated treats at the field house party.

Training session Post-Incident Neighbourhood Support Framework for Kitchissippi Ward

Rideau-Rockcliffe Community Resource Centre, the Ottawa Gang Strategy and Somerset West Community Health Centre, are inviting you to participate to the Post-Incident Neighbourhood Support Framework Protocol Training.

Councilor Jeff Leiper’s office is the lead for this protocol in the Kitchissippi area and will be attending.

The Post-Incident Neighbourhood Support Framework is a guide to how communities across Ottawa can engage community leaders and service providers to coordinate support and resources to neighbourhoods impacted by violent or traumatic incidents (also referred to as a critical incident).
The Framework is intended to aid in reducing distress and restore cohesion, and ultimately reduce fear, assist in recovery, and build community resiliency.
