Christmas Sleigh Ride – Thanks

Many Thanks to Volunteer Neighbours for Community Sleigh Ride 2018!

What a wonderful way to start the Holidays with Carol Singing and Jingling of Bells through Champlain Park!

A special thank you to Jim Cocks who was the energetic organizer of the event. Dennis Van Staalduinen, West Wellington Business Improvement Association, led the singing of Christmas Carols with enthusiasm! The Sauve family, with Tom Sauve playing a lead role, once again prepared the special visit to Santa and distribution of candy canes to children by Santa’s helpers. The Champlain Park Community Association funded the event. Thank you to volunteers who made hot chocolate and donated baked goods that were enjoyed by everyone at the field house. Families came out of hibernation to an evening with mild weather and a great opportunity to connect with neighbours! See the attached photos contributed by John Arnason.

Invitation: Open House for Rosemount Revitalization

Ottawa Public Library invites members of the community, partners, and customers of OPL’s Rosemount branch to view preliminary designs for revitalizing and improving the 100-year-old branch.

There will be two Open House sessions at the Rosemount branch:

  • Thursday, December 13 from 6 to 8 pm
  • Saturday, December 15 from noon to 2 pm

The branch is located at 18 Rosemount Avenue. Registration is not required.

OPL is working with local design firm +VG Architects, who have been engaged to conduct the revitalization, including public consultation to ensure community needs are met. The preliminary designs reflect input and suggestions from the public, further to consultation online and in person in October 2018. Members of the public will be able to meet the architects and OPL staff, ask questions and share comments about the most recent design.

Designs will be finalized in the coming months and presented to the OPL Board in February.

Construction work is expected to begin in spring 2019 for completion in late 2019 during which Library services will be provided at a nearby temporary location.

Where: Parkdale United Church, at the corner of Parkdale and Gladstone. Please enter by the ramp off Gladstone.

More details: Join in the biggest human rights event in the world, Amnesty International’s “Write for Rights”.  This is Parkdale’s first Amnesty write-a-thon, but they have taken place since 2001. Last December, hundreds of thousands of letter writers all over the world wrote five and a half million letters and messages in support of those whose human rights have been violated. Because they are under threat all over the world, this year’s campaign will focus on courageous women peacefully advocating for human rights.  Parkdale’s write-a-thon event is open to all. Coffee kindly donated by Bridgehead.

Thank you.
