Winter Carnival – Reminder

In other news, the new Remic Winter Hill is ready. https://champlainpark.org/remic-winter-hill/ has the map. It’s a shallow slope that’s been cleared of trees for sliding down, in a safer location than the usual steeper slope between the parkway lanes.

Community Sleigh Ride Tonight – Reminder

Just a reminder that the sleigh ride starts tonight at 6pm for small children, 6:30 for everyone else. Santa suggests you dress warmly! See https://champlainpark.org/2019/12/06/community-sleigh-ride-december-19/ for details and the map.

Also, once Christmas is done, you can bring your natural Christmas tree to the baseball diamond backstop fence for the winter carnival (wind break) and February’s community bonfire (combustion!).

Christmas Craft Fair – November 23 – Reminder

The Champlain Park Annual Christmas Craft Fair is on this Saturday November 23, from 10 until 3 PM at the Champlain Park field house, 149 Cowley Avenue (the neighbourhood is near Scott Street and Island Park Drive).

A wonderful selection of hand knitted and sewn items, pottery, stained glass, jewellery, holiday baking and a wide selection of vintage cashmere scarves and vintage designer purses.

Free parking and hot chocolate.

Annual General Meeting Reminder – October 29

The Champlain Park Community Association (CPCA) Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be on Tuesday October 29, 2019 at the Champlain Park Fieldhouse. All community residents are welcome to come for a meet and greet with refreshments at 6:30 pm, followed by the business meeting at 7 pm.

Hazardous Waste Disposal at Tunney’s Pasture – Sept 15

As described in https://ottawa.ca/en/residents/garbage-and-recycling/hazardous-waste-and-special-items we have local waste depots twice this year, for disposing of paint, old electronics and other things too dangerous for regular garbage.

The depot runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Tunney’s Pasture. The last one this year is on Sunday, September 15, 2019.

Some of the odder and more dangerous things I’ve brought and the chemical experts at the depot had fun looking over – old gardening chemicals with Malathion (still used for West Nile mosquitoes), DDT and Chlordane.

Federal All Candidates Debate – October 15

You are invited to the Federal All Candidates Debate, Tuesday, October 15, 2019, at 7 pm.

  • The debate is sponsored by your local community associations.
  • Some volunteers to help set up and put away tables and chairs would be appreciated. Please get in touch with Heather Pearl at pearhea@aol.com before October 4. I will forward your information to the organisers.

If you can’t make it in person, there are also plans to live-stream the debate on YouTube.

Romeo and Juliet this Friday

Just a reminder that Romeo and Juliet will be performed by A Company of Fools in our park this Friday at 7pm, with snacks after the show sponsored by your community association. See https://champlainpark.org/2019/07/01/romeo-and-juliet-in-our-park-august-9/ for other information.
