Start Your Holiday Celebration with a Community Sleigh Ride and Carol Singing!
Thursday, December 19th, 2019 at 6:00PM
What a great way to start the holidays!
WE’RE GOING TO TRY SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT THIS YEAR !! In addition to the main sleigh ride which will depart from the Fieldhouse at 6:30pm, we have added an earlier, shorter “toddlers-ride” starting at 6pm.
We want to make sure everyone has their chance on the sleigh …and this will give some of our littlest riders a chance before the “big rush” that happens at 6:30pm. Priority seating will be given on the “Toddlers-ride” to toddlers and their parents … we have a growing number now in the neighbourhood. The Sleigh will return to the Fieldhouse for 6:30pm to pick up everyone else! And everyone is welcome to come on the 6:30pm sleighride – even if you were on the earlier one – but space will be tight as always!
If you’re able to volunteer any time with set-up, cleanup, making treats or hot chocolate, or just have questions about the event, please let Jim Cocks know at jim.co@sympatico.ca. We thank-you in advance. One can never have too many elves!
The sleigh is currently scheduled to depart:
From: The Fieldhouse
When: 6:30pm – 8:00pm (6:00pm for Toddlers-ride)
Date: Thursday, December 19th, 2019.
We’ll update the status on the website if there are delays due to weather or other problems.
If the horses are unavailable, we’ll just meet at the Fieldhouse for a party.
Weather permitting, the plan is to have the horse-drawn sleigh gliding through the neighbourhood starting at around 6:30 p.m. at the Fieldhouse. (6:00pm for Toddlers-ride)
Parents with young children and seniors will have priority seating this year; with frequent stops to allow for everyone to have their turn. As in previous years, the overflow of adults and older children can walk behind wagon – singing all the way!
Bring your best singing voices, your bells (and any other musical instrument!) for an evening of favorite holiday carols! Song-sheets will be provided, and all are invited to join in singing popular carols.
We may even in a stop at a place reputed to be the NEW local hideout of Old St. Nick.
The evening should wrap up at the Fieldhouse at about 7:30, where there will be hot drinks (hot cocoa) and tasty treats. Please feel free to bring holiday cookies or treats for sharing at the party. If you are on the Toddlers’ sleighride at 6:00pm, feel free to stay at the fieldhouse while the 6:30pm ride takes place.
For those that want more sleighride time, the horses and sleigh will continue to give rides until around 8pm.
For reference, here’s a PDF of the copy of the map. Please appreciate that depending on weather and road conditions, the map is only an approximation of the route – but we’ll try to stick to it!
