Winter Carnival Thanks

The carnival organizers would like to thank:

  • Jason Keats for his delightful balloon animals.
  • Jim Kot for preparing and supervising the rink.
  • Linda Landreville and Kathy Kot for working the coffee and ticket tables.
  • Dennis Van Staalduinen for donating gift cards for the chili cook off.
  • All the Champlain Park residents that contributed baked goods and chili.

We’d also like to thank Carol Arnason (Social event coordinator) and the community Winter Carnival event organizers Natalie Raffoul and Sarah Kotyck for putting the whole thing together.

By the way, the horse drawn sleigh did get past the fence for the very first time. Here’s a good photo Dennis tweeted:

Busy Winter Weekend – Reminder

It’s going to be busy in the park this weekend and we hope you will be able to join us with your family and friends for both of these winter events – the Winter Carnival on Saturday and SJAM Winter Trail Celebration and Ski Festival on Sunday.

Our Winter Carnival event organizers are asking for your help with the following, if you have some free time for a few hours:

Community Bonfire Wrap-up

We had our first and very successful Community Bonfire this past Sunday. Many neighbours, their families and friends and people passing-by enjoyed meeting around a burning fire, skating on the rink or skiing on the SJAM trail with its new path through the woods and over Pontiac to Champlain Park. They braved extreme cold temperatures while enjoying warmth from the fire, hot drinks, the roasting of marshmallows and s’mores.

First, thanks go to community event organizers Jim Cocks, Bill Baggs. They set it up and did most of the work.

Many thanks to Jeff Leiper and his staff (Emma Kenny and Fiona Mitchell-Gougeon) and city workers for supplying the fire kit and cleaning it up later. Thanks to Bushtukah, and Bridgehead for their support in helping make this happen.

Thanks to Dave Adams for getting the SJAM trail in such good shape (even flattening the area around the fire and tent) and Jim Kot for the Outdoor Rink (ODR) being in such good condition after the recent thaw.

The volunteer event organizers Jim and Bill would also like to thank Adrian Bradley for being the link between the community association and his assistance in advertising and promoting the event.

Winter Carnival – January 27

When : Saturday January 27, 2018
Where: Champlain Park Fieldhouse
Time: Noon – 3:00pm

Snow, rain or shine, this festive annual event takes place on the last Saturday in January.

There will be Chili cook-off , baked goodies, juice, hot dogs and more for sale in the Fieldhouse.

Community Sleigh Ride a Great Success

Following up on the sleigh ride, first some thanks from Champlain Park neighbours to organizers Jim Cocks, Tom Sauve, and Dennis Van Staalduinen for leading us through the neighbourhood singing Christmas carols on a horse drawn wagon with a stop at Santa’s house for candy canes. We jingled all the way!! Thank you to the volunteer elves. Thank you to the sponsors of this free event, the Champlain Park Community Association, Bridgehead and the West Wellington Business Improvement Area. Thank you to many volunteers who donated treats at the field house party.

Training session Post-Incident Neighbourhood Support Framework for Kitchissippi Ward

Dear Champlain Park Community,
Rideau-Rockcliffe Community Resource Centre, the Ottawa Gang Strategy and Somerset West Community Health Centre, are inviting you to participate to the Post-Incident Neighbourhood Support Framework Protocol Training.

Councilor Jeff Leiper’s office is the lead for this protocol in the Kitchissippi area and will be attending.

Framework
The Post-Incident Neighbourhood Support Framework is a guide to how communities across Ottawa can engage community leaders and service providers to coordinate support and resources to neighbourhoods impacted by violent or traumatic incidents (also referred to as a critical incident).
The Framework is intended to aid in reducing distress and restore cohesion, and ultimately reduce fear, assist in recovery, and build community resiliency.
