April ward forum
Team Kitchissippi and I will be hosting our last ward forum of this term of Council on April 30. It’s scheduled for 6-8 at the field house at Van Lang (29 Van Lang Pvt.) We’ll have all the usual updates from community groups and BIAs. I’m thrilled that our guest speaker this time will be John Manconi, GM of Transportation at the city. It should be a good one.
The dates for the Tunney’s Pasture hazardous waste depots are now known, Sunday, May 6 2018 and Sunday, September 16 2018. See the city web site https://ottawa.ca/en/residents/garbage-and-recycling/hazardous-waste-and-special-items for a list of the items that are considered too hazardous for regular garbage (things like mercury filled fluorescent light bulbs).
If you have electronic waste (old computers, TVs and other equipment) or fabrics you want to get rid of, Connaught Public School (Rosemount and Gladstone) http://connaughtschoolyardrenewal.ca/ (oddly not listing their own event for this year, though it is listed in http://www.recycleyourelectronics.ca/) is taking them to help raise funds for school yard improvements. Electronics and textile recycling on Friday April 20 from 7:45 to 8:30 am and Saturday, April 21 from 8 am to 1 pm.
The city also has a list of other e-waste events. I see there is one nearby at Dovercourt on Saturday, April 14 2018, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

As you know, our government recently passed the Building Better Communities and Conserving Watersheds Act, 2017. This legislation replaced the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) with the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal, which will help ensure that proceedings before the tribunal are faster, fairer and more affordable.
We want to make sure that we do everything possible to give people a stronger voice in the planning of their own communities. So, I am pleased to invite you to a town hall discussion on Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the Churchill Seniors Recreation Centre, 345 Richmond Road, Ottawa.

Our co-chair, Heather, is working on a SmartCity response for the CPCA. She would appreciate your input, but also encourages you to respond to the survey directly. Here is some background.
The Federal government’s Smart Cities Challenge invites cities to compete for a top prize of $50 million. The money will be used by the winning cities to respond to community challenges, by taking a “smart city” approach, using data and connected technology. The government is prioritizing applications that harness community input and feedback (that’s us!), to identify key challenges and potential solutions.

Dear Friends,
As many of you may know, the Ottawa Hospital has begun the planning process for the development of a new regional trauma and acute care centre at the former site of the Sir John Carling building to replace the existing Civic Campus, which has been in operation since 1924. Public engagement so far has included a third-party report on engagement, a series of community feedback sessions, and the launch of a website devoted to sharing information and soliciting ideas. I encourage you all to get engaged and share your ideas and priorities for the new campus.

Please note that the Ottawa Hospital will host a public information session this Wednesday to present an update on hospital services planned for the new campus and the background journey to an architectural design concept.

The Planning and Growth Management Department offers the Planning Primer Program to help residents become more aware of, and more involved in, the land-use planning process. The program is a series of half-day courses. The content of these Primer courses is the same as those offered in previous years. The courses are offered in English only. Framework
The Post-Incident Neighbourhood Support Framework is a guide to how communities across Ottawa can engage community leaders and service providers to coordinate support and resources to neighbourhoods impacted by violent or traumatic incidents (also referred to as a critical incident).
The Framework is intended to aid in reducing distress and restore cohesion, and ultimately reduce fear, assist in recovery, and build community resiliency.
