From: William van Geest <william.vangeest@gmail.com>

Good afternoon,

I have received communication from Councillor Leiper’s office that in order for City staff to participate in this meeting, it will need to be scheduled for the following week. I apologize for this change. I do, however, think it will be important for City staff to be on hand to answer questions.

Scott Street Cycling and Pedestrian Presentation

Co-chair Heather writes:

On November 25, Jeff Leiper hosted an information and Q&A session with City Transportation Planning Staff, on upcoming changes to Scott St, to make it more bicycle and pedestrian friendly. Plans are to upgrade the section from Churchill to Holland later next year. Jeff provided us a copy of the presentation which describes the project and timelines. Within the next month, Staff will put up a web page with further information. The page will be updated as work proceeds.

Thank you,
Heather

Tom Brown Arena Respite Centre needs Donations

From councillor Jeff Leiper’s newsletter #238, also see http://kitchissippiward.ca/content/tom-brown-arena-respite-centre-faq:

The Tom Brown temporary respite centre has opened and I’m pleased that it’s been well-used with few major issues in the community. Residents have asked how they can best welcome our neighbours using the centre, and City staff have provided me with the following:

Discarded Syringes

Subject: Fwd: Are any other CAs experiencing an uptake of discarded needles in public places?
Date: Mon, 9 Nov 2020 18:36:55 -0500
From: Heather Pearl

A number of Kitchissippi Community Associations report that residents have found discarded syringes in their neighbourhoods. The reports are broadly based, with some homeowners even having found needles on their own properties. Please report immediately to the NCC or the City (and c.c. the CPCA Board for our information) if you see discarded syringes.

NCC lands discarded syringe pickup:

Clearview Crosswalk

Of note in councillor Jeff Leiper’s Kitchissippi ward newsletter #238:

Clearview crosswalk forthcoming

After several months of navigating the bureaucracies at the City and NCC, we’ve been informed that the signalized pedestrian crosswalk at Island Park and Clearview being funded as part of the benefits associated with the Mizrahi project is finally set to get underway. Work should begin on that in the next couple of weeks.

City Official Plan Public Presentations

The City of Ottawa is drafting a new Official Plan that will strongly impact the shape of future zoning and development. They have organized a series of virtual presentations that will be of interest to residents of Champlain Park, as we are a rapidly developing neighbourhood, close to two transit stations, bordered by two areas to be developed, Tunney’s Pasture and Scott Street. We will therefore definitely be affected by the Official Plan directions.

Here is a link that invites residents to an important presentation on this topic. Although your CPCA Planning and Zoning and Civic Engagement reps will definitely be tuning in, we will no doubt wish to work with local residents on some issues that will arise out of the directions in the Official Plan, such as zoning and development both within and surrounding our community.

Say no thanks to COVID-19 this Thanksgiving

The city has a couple of articles / newsletters about avoiding contact with people during Thanksgiving to cut down on the spread of COVID-19 disease.

Say no thanks to COVID-19 this Thanksgiving

To say this year has been tough is an understatement. Thanksgiving is one of our most beloved traditions, and the prospect of missing out on the social connection we all crave right now is hard to bear. At this critical time, we must stick to our households and refrain from gatherings that could put us and our loved ones at risk. If you’re feeling disappointed, you’re not alone. Seven months into it, we are still in this together.

We know we can flatten this curve. How? Because we’ve done it before. Together.

The question then becomes – what’s next? Take a deep breath and consider the following tips to have a great Thanksgiving 2020 while still staying safe.

What you need to know about social gatherings in October

We are at a critical point in the COVID-19 pandemic.

To respond to the rising number of positive COVID-19 cases, the Province of Ontario and Ottawa Public Health recommend that you limit close physical contact to people within your household. For those who are living alone, it is recommended that they consider having close contact with one additional household.

The Province has also reduced limits on the number of people allowed to attend private social gatherings, and these limits could change at any time.

With this in mind, if you still plan to have a gathering, here are the answers to some key questions.
