Grand Opening of Ottawa’s Largest Dog Run at Hampton Park

What: Opening of Ottawa’s largest dog run at Hampton Park

When: Monday, August 25th 7:30 – 8:30 a.m.

Where: Hampton Park, corner of Island Park Drive and Merivale Road

Along with Mayor Jim Watson, I would like to invite you to the opening of the largest dog run in Ottawa – 9,000 square metres. Dogs please bring your owners and make sure they are on their best behaviour. Cyclists and pedestrians are welcome to enjoy the new and improved multi-use pathway connecting Kirkwood Avenue to Island Park Drive. The first 50 to arrive will get a flashing pedestrian light suitable for dogs and humans alike.

Quand : le lundi 25 août de 7 h 30 à 8 h 30

Où : parc Hampton, à l’angle de la promenade Island Park et du chemin Merivale

Le maire Jim Watson et moi-même vous convions à l’inauguration du enclos pour chiens le plus grand d’Ottawa, avec ses 9 000 mètres carrés. Les chiens sont priés d’amener leur maître et de les surveiller. Les cyclistes et les piétons sont invités à utiliser le sentier polyvalent amélioré qui relie l’avenue Kirkwood à la promenade Island Park. Les 50 premiers arrivants recevront une lampe clignotante pour piétons, qui convient tout aussi bien aux chiens qu’aux humains.

Municipal All Candidates Meeting at Champlain Park Fieldhouse – September 18

Hi everyone: I now have confirmation from all of the candidates in the Municipal Election except Ellen Lougheed to participate in the All Candidates meeting at Champlain Park Fieldhouse at 149 Cowley Ave. near Clearview Ave. Island Park Community Association and Westboro Beach Community Association have confirmed their involvement. At this time, I am asking everyone involved in the Community Associations to invite your neighbours personally and through web sites, e-mails, Twitter etc. We would like a big turn out. I will contact you in the first week of September about any other details.

The event is at 7:30 pm on Thursday, September 18.

It should be a successful event!

On behalf of Andrew McCreight (currently on vacation until Sept. 2), I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know that the website for the Zoning Study on Local Shops and Services (Local Commercial Study) has been updated following review of the online questionnaire and public comments received to date.

The update provides three new documents/links as follows:

· Questionnaire Results
o A summary of the results from the online questionnaire (Nov. 21 – Jan. 31)

· Candidate Sites and potential areas for rezoning
o A list of areas identified by questionnaire participants and location maps of candidate sites

· Potential Zoning Regulations
o Potential zoning regulations for two new zones that would permit commercial uses in residential areas.

Solutions for the Scott Street LRT/Bus Detour – June 16

Our councillor has posted a newsletter on the increased bus traffic temporarily (until 2018) on Scott street while the transitway is being converted to train tracks up to Tunney’s Pasture. Have a look at http://us2.campaign-archive2.com/?u=e716e95bbc50cda804f90c666&id=b5c88f8a84 to see the solutions that they’ve come up with. It seems to include new paths for bikes and pedestrians, new traffic lights, more traffic department monitoring cameras, and fewer buses.

There’s an open house on the topic on June 16 18:30-21:00 at the Tom Brown arena.

Spring Give Away Weekend encourages residents to find new homes for useful items

Ottawa – The City of Ottawa is committed to keeping useful materials out of the landfill. The City’s Spring Give Away Weekend, Saturday June 7 and Sunday June 8, offers Ottawa residents an opportunity to find new homes for unwanted items.

To participate, set gently used items out at the curb on June 7 and 8 for the Spring Give Away Weekend. Then tour your local neighbourhood and city to find hidden treasures.

Rules for setting out items

Place items like clothes, furniture, sports equipment, books and more at the curb
Place stickers or signs on items with the word “FREE”
At the end of the day, uncollected items can be donated to a local charity

La fin de semaine don-débarras du printemps encourage les résidents à trouver un nouveau propriétaire pour des articles utiles

Ottawa – La Ville d’Ottawa s’engage à maintenir les articles utiles hors des sites d’enfouissement. La fin de semaine don-débarras du printemps, qui aura lieu le samedi 7 et le dimanche 8 juin, donne aux résidents d’Ottawa l’occasion de trouver un nouveau propriétaire pour les articles dont ils ne veulent plus.

Pour participer, mettez vos articles usagés en bordure de la rue les 7 et 8 juin pendant la fin de semaine don-débarras du printemps. Puis faites le tour de votre voisinage et de la ville pour y trouver des trésors cachés.

Procédure à suivre lors de cette fin de semaine :

Placez en bordure de rue vos articles, comme des vêtements, des meubles, de l’équipement de sport, des livres et ainsi de suite;
Apposez un collant ou une étiquette portant le mot « GRATUIT » sur les articles;
À la fin de la journée, tous les articles non réclamés peuvent être remis à un organisme de bienfaisance de la région.

Thank you for confirming your attendance to the Ottawa 2017 Ideas Forum. For those who will not be able to make it, we still want to inform you about the scenario. We appreciate your support and invite you to contribute your ideas online at ottawa2017.ca.

The event will take place on Sunday June 8^th from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at City Hall’s Council Chambers (Andrew Haydon Hall) located at 110 Laurier Avenue West. We anticipate about 100 participants form different community associations, arts and culture groups and private sector representatives.

We kindly ask that you arrive approximately 30 minutes before the event begins as you will need to register at the table which will be adjacent to the Council Chambers and will be able to take advantage of this opportunity for networking. Registration will begin as early as 12:00 p.m. If you wish to speak during the event, please indicate this upon registration. Three minute speaking tickets with a designated start time will be distributed to anyone who wishes to speak. These tickets will be distributed based on a first come first serve basis. We will have about 30 speaking opportunities. There will also be forms available on site which will allow participants to indicate how they can contribute to the Ottawa 2017 initiative. If you prefer, you can also table a brief document with ideas and potential contributions.

Speakers for the event will include Mayor Jim Watson, Co-chairs of the Ottawa 2017 Task Force: Councilor Rainer Bloess and Councilor Katherine Hobbs, Glenn Duncan from Ottawa Tourism and Aaron Robinson from the Ottawa Senators. The event will be facilitated by Mr. Guy Laflamme, Head of Ottawa 2017 Celebrations. There will be 90 minutes allotted for comments and proposals from participants. Anyone with a 3 minute speaking ticket will have the opportunity to address the Ottawa 2017 Task Force at the time indicated on their ticket. Refreshments graciously offered by Tim Hortons will be served at the end of the event.

The planned schedule is as follows:

12:00 – 1:00 p.m.	Participants arrive to the table adjacent to the Andrew Haydon Hall to register and collect “speaking coupons”.
1:00 p.m.	Event Emcee, Guy Laflamme, welcomes participants to the event and introduces Mayor Watson.
1:05 p.m.	Mayor Watson keynote address.
1:15 p.m.	Co-chairs of the 2017 Task force (Councillor Bloess and Councillor Hobbs) will present: Themes for Commemorating Canada’s 150^th in Ottawa.
1:20 p.m.	Glenn Duncan from Ottawa Tourism and Aaron Robinson from the Ottawa Senators will provide key stakeholder comments.
1:25 p.m.	Comments Session will begin at 1:25 p.m. Participants will have a chance to address members of the Task Force and provide their input. Each speaker will have 3 minutes to speak.
2:55 p.m.	MC Guy Laflamme will wrap-up and provide closing remarks.
3:00 p.m.	Attendees will have the opportunity to interact near the refreshments area.

L’événement aura lieu le dimanche 8 juin de 13h à 15 h à l’Hôtel de Ville dans la salle du Conseil municipal (Salle Andrew Haydon) située au 110, avenue Laurier Ouest. Nous prévoyons environ 100 participants provenant de différentes associations communautaires, d’organismes des arts et de la culture ainsi que des représentants du secteur privé.

Nous vous demandons d’arriver environ 30 minutes avant le début de l’événement afin de vous inscrire à la table d’accueil qui sera située à l’entrée de la salle Andrew Haydon. Vous aurez alors l’occasion de faire du réseautage. Le personnel sera en place afin d’amorcer les inscriptions dès midi. Si vous souhaitez prendre la parole lors de l’événement, veuillez l’indiquer au moment de l’inscription. On vous assignera alors une heure précise pour une intervention de 3 minutes. Cet horaire sera alloué sur le principe du « premier arrivé, premier servi ». Nous avons environ 30 occasions de prise de parole. Il y aura également des formulaires disponibles sur place permettant aux participants de communiquer comment ils comptent contribuer à l’initiative Ottawa 2017. Si vous préférez, vous pourrez également déposer un document indiquant vos idées et votre contribution potentielle.

L’événement débutera par une allocution du Maire Jim Watson suivi d’une présentation par les Co-présidents du Groupe de Travail d’Ottawa 2017 : les conseillers Rainer Bloess et Katherine Hobbs. Suivra une présentation par Glenn Duncan de Tourisme Ottawa et Aaron Robinson des Sénateurs d’Ottawa. L’événement sera animé par M. Guy Laflamme, chef des célébrations d’Ottawa 2017. 90 minutes seront allouées pour les présentations des participants. Des rafraîchissements seront offerts gracieuseté de Tim Hortons à la fin de l’événement.

Le calendrier prévu est comme suit :

Reminder: Upcoming Public Information Sessions

The 2014 Zoning Review, Phase 2 is now well underway and City planners are working on proposed Zoning By-law updates in over 30 review areas. The proposed changes will provide greater certainty for residents, developers, businesses and others, about what to expect when it comes to future development in the review areas.
