Yes, Ottawa is preparing to participate in the national celebration of gardens and gardening, see attached Ottawa Garden Days presentation.

Gardens, public and private, are important to our quality of life, in every sense of the word, as you may know. I am sure that your community association is aware of garden groups in your community.

We would truly appreciate if you could past on the attached invitation to them inviting them to participate and celebrate what gardens do for your community, by organizing an activity in your community.

At the Ottawa Garden Council our aim is to have activities in every city ward and to be Canada’s most vibrant Garden Days city.

With that in mind, we are looking for Garden Days Ambassadors in every City wards. Attached is the role of an Ottawa Garden Days Ambassador. If you know someone that loves gardens or gardening and might be interested, please past it on.

Thank you for supporting this initiative and remember “Gardens Make Our Communities Grow”.

We are known as a green Capital, our big vision is to make Ottawa, “A Garden Friendly City” and Capital.

Census Jobs, some at Tunney’s Pasture

CCR-008-16-E_recruitment_admail_card.jpeg

From: Postorino, Joseph
Sent: Thursday, January 14, 2016 1:27 PM

[…]

For the Census in 2016 we have developed a Community Supporter Toolkit (CST) that will be available to organizations around the end of January. This will contain a variety of electronic and print media tools that you can use to help promote Census jobs and the benefits of completing the census questionnaire within your organization and with the broader community. I have attached the PowerPoint presentation describing what you can expect within the Community Supporter Toolkit. You can use this presentation within your organization to determine what tools within the CST best suit your needs.

One of our main objectives with the upcoming census is community engagement and organizations such as yours serve an important role within your communities. At this time there are 35,000 census related positions that require filling. Most of these jobs are enumerator positions and we are looking to staff them with people from communities that they will be working in. As a start, I have provided you with a promotional jobs pdf. that can be printed, or attached to a newsletter and used to advertise census jobs. Please feel free to share this with your networks where you deem appropriate. Information concerning Census jobs can also be found at: http://www.census.gc.ca/ccr16d/ccr16d_000-eng.html

Once you have had time to look over the Community Supporter Toolkit presentation, please feel free to contact me and we can discuss how we may be able to work together going forward. I can be reached at 613-951-0567 or at joseph.postorino@canada.ca. If there is a particular day or time that works best for you let me know and we can arrange to talk at that time. Also, if you have any questions, comments or issues with the material, please let me know.

From READ – the Rosemount Expansion and Development group:

Do you care about Rosemount – YOUR COMMUNITY LIBRARY? Then please follow the activities of READ through our email list as well as facebook group, twitter and our website.

Rosemount Library is the second most used library per sq/ft of all 32 branches AND has been the #1 branch priority for the Ottawa Public Library for three years. Yet, other libraries lower on the list have had expansions and redevelopments. Now is a critical time for Rosemount, especially with all the surrounding development that is occurring.

READ (Rosemount Expansion and Development) is a group of local volunteers throughout Rosemount’s catchment area that want to help expand and redevelopment Rosemount Library. We are working closely with library staff and with politicians at various levels of government on this issue.

We would like YOU to follow our occasional email updates and our social media presence so that you know what’s going on. We may need, in rare instances, to engage library users in advocacy or planning and this is the way to find out.

United for Refugees / Ensemble pour les réfugiés

Related to a previous post about a forum on refugees

Date: Tue, 6 Oct 2015 11:30:23 +0000
From: jim.watson@ottawa.ca
Subject: United for Refugees / Ensemble pour les réfugiés

(le français suit)

This past Thursday, I announced United for Refugees – a community initiative focused on raising money to support the sponsorship and settlement of people affected by the crisis in Syria.

You have likely seen the devastating photos or read the heartbreaking stories of parents and their children torn from their homes and loved ones in the worst global humanitarian crisis of our time.

Together, we are rallying the community to help families come to Ottawa and begin rebuilding their lives.

I am asking you to make a contribution to this important initiative.

United for Refugees is committed to getting resources to where they are needed the most and will have the greatest impact. I urge you to continue to support United Way Ottawa through your workplace campaigns this year, but ask you to also consider digging a little deeper to support this pressing issue.

Ottawa, and the whole of Canada, has an important role in accepting these refugees. Please join me today in making an impact. Let’s show our city’s compassion by giving refugee families new starts in Ottawa.

Sincerely,

Jim Watson
Mayor

This campaign is a collaboration between United Way Ottawa, the Community Foundation of Ottawa, the City of Ottawa and Refugee 613.
