Tom Brown Arena Respite Centre needs Donations

From councillor Jeff Leiper’s newsletter #238, also see http://kitchissippiward.ca/content/tom-brown-arena-respite-centre-faq:

The Tom Brown temporary respite centre has opened and I’m pleased that it’s been well-used with few major issues in the community. Residents have asked how they can best welcome our neighbours using the centre, and City staff have provided me with the following:

A number of Kitchissippi Community Associations report that residents have found discarded syringes in their neighbourhoods. The reports are broadly based, with some homeowners even having found needles on their own properties. Please report immediately to the NCC or the City (and c.c. the CPCA Board for our information) if you see discarded syringes.

Clearview Crosswalk

Of note in councillor Jeff Leiper’s Kitchissippi ward newsletter #238:

Clearview crosswalk forthcoming

After several months of navigating the bureaucracies at the City and NCC, we’ve been informed that the signalized pedestrian crosswalk at Island Park and Clearview being funded as part of the benefits associated with the Mizrahi project is finally set to get underway. Work should begin on that in the next couple of weeks.

There’s also a description of the project from last year at http://www.kitchissippiward.ca/content/clearviewipd-pedestrian-crossover-plans

Gas Leak on Scott Street

There are several reports of a gas leak on Scott Street east of Island park. Possibly the construction people hit the wrong pipe, or the ground subsided and broke a gas pipe after sewer work. Anyway, whatever the cause, the closest houses have been evacuated and you should use some other street to get to the neighbourhood (Scott is closed from Northwestern westward).

From: Nick Xenos <xenosn@yahoo.com>

[Pair of Glowing Pumpkins at Night]

We would like congratulate the winners of the Champlain Park Halloween Contest. Your efforts were recognized by the residents of the neighbourhood.

The deserving winners are 222 Carleton Avenue for the best-decorated house and 185 Daniel Avenue for the best-carved pumpkin. The little skeletons of Carleton gained the appreciation of the public as well as the 2 illuminated pumpkins of 185 Daniel that represented 2 grimacing faces. The winners will each receive a Thyme and Again gift card.

[Baby Skeletons in the Front Yard]
We would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the Champlain Park Community Association for sponsoring the prizes and to all those who participated in the context by decorating their houses, their pumpkins and by voting for their favourite decorations. You have demonstrated our community spirit to celebrate a safe Halloween in this unusual year!

In late breaking news, we have a reply message from the graveyard…

[Post Halloween sign thanking the community]
