Family Dance – January 17

Subject: Next Family Dance Jan 17
Date: Tue, 6 Jan 2015 11:44:26 -0500
From: Leonore Evans <leonoreevans1@gmail.com>

Hello everyone,

The next Family Dance is on Saturday January 17th from 330-5pm. As always, the dances are held at the Churchill Seniors Recreation Centre on Richmond Rd. They are geared towards children 3+, always have live music and a caller.

Please bring a pair of indoor shoes, a water bottle and your biggest smile.

Follow this link for more information: http://www.ottawacontra.ca/view/?familydance

Or this link to the Family Dance page on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/739247376164452/

Feel free to invite friends and neighbours. Hope to see you on the dance floor,
Leo

What is a family dance you ask??? It’s a community dance specifically geared towards kids and the adults that they bring. It’s about parents/adults dancing with kids in a fun, lively, and guided atmosphere! There is always fantastic LIVE celtic/quebecois music and all the dances are taught by a caller.

Family dances are for ALL ages! The dances are geared towards ages 3 and up although younger ones can definitely join in and wee wee ones can participate in backpacks or slings. πŸ™‚

Do we need any experience? NO WAY! While folks who have danced before will have a blast, parents and kids with no dance experience can easily do these dances and have a great time too! Remember, you’re supported by the caller, the dances are easy to follow, and they are focused on fun! This is a great way to get your body moving to fantastic rhythms and feel connections in ways we don’t always get in our daily lives.

Tips for coming out???

  1. Bring indoor shoes
  2. Adults, be ready to dance with the kids you bring, AND…
  3. Everyone, be ready for a great time!

How does this differ from our contra dances??? Contra dances fall under the larger category of traditional dance along with the family dances with the music also being jigs and reels. However, in a contra dance, you dance with one partner for 8-10 minutes. Every 30 seconds or so of that dance, you repeat a set of moves that the caller has taught you, each time with a new set of neighbours. Usually, kids start dancing contra around ages 8 or so but we’ve seen kids catch on as young as 5 or 6. Kids are welcome at our contra dances (free under 16) as long as there’s some supervision by parents.

Details:

Dates: 4 dances this season! Nov 15, Jan 17, Feb 21, and Apr 18
Time: 3:30-5:00pm
Cost: Free for all kids … $10 for everyone over 16 yrs
Location: In Westboro at the Churchill Recreation Centre – 345 Richmond Road, Ottawa. Enter through the main door on the side of the building.
Parking: There’s a parking lot – come get a free parking pass from the front desk. If full, there is street parking just north of the hall.
Bus: #2 stops RIGHT outside the dance hall.

Subject: REMINDER: Leading Women/Leading Girls Building Communities Recognition Program
Date: Mon, 5 Jan 2015 20:56:06 +0000

Dear Friends,

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Leading Women/Leading Girls Building Communities Recognition Program which celebrates the achievements of women and girls who demonstrate exceptional leadership in working to improve the lives of others in their communities.

Over the last several years, 110 women from our community of Ottawa Centre have received this award, more than anywhere else in the province! We all know women and girls in our community whose leadership helps improve the lives of others. I encourage you to take this opportunity to recognize their contributions and applaud their successes.

To nominate someone, simply fill out the attached form, answer three short questions about the nominee, and attach three letters of support. These letters must be unique to each nominee and should indicate how the nominee’s work has improved the lives of others. Letters may be submitted by a community leader, mentor, employer, or another individual who has experience volunteering with the nominee.

Applications must be submitted to my office by January 14, 2015, so that I can submit them to the Ontario Women’s Directorate in advance of the deadline. If you have any questions, or need any help completing your application, please do not hesitate to contact my Community Office.

Sincerely,

Yasir

Neighbourhood Watch – Block Captains needed

Subject: Neighbourhood Watch – Block Captains needed
Date: Tue, 23 Dec 2014 19:37:41 -0500
From: Sarah Livermore <sarah.livermore@hotmail.com>

Hello Champlain Park residents!

My name is Sarah Livermore. I am the new Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator for Champlain Park.

I am looking for volunteers to be Block Captains and Alternate Block Captains. Block Captains are responsible for a certain number of houses on their street or block. Residents of those homes or streets would notify their Block Captains of suspicious behaviour, problematic issues, safety concerns, etc. who would then notify the Coordinator. Alternate Block Captains get involved when the Block Captain goes on holiday or is absent.

Anyone who is interested, please contact me at: sarah.livermore@hotmail.com. Place in the subject-line of the e-mail BLOCK CAPTAINS. We will arrange to meet to discuss: what is involved, for which geographic area you would like to be responsible; and any questions or concerns you may have.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Sarah Livermore, B.A., M.A.

β€œOpen” Executive Meeting – January 8

β€œOpen” Executive Meeting Jan. 8, 2015 7-9pm Champlain Park Fieldhouse

At the recent CPCA AGM, we discussed whether CPCA Board meetings should be open to the general membership. The CPCA Executive are unanimous in regarding this as a worthwhile initiative.

Accordingly, we invite any interested member of the CPCA to join us at our next Executive Board meeting at the field house on January 8, 2015.

The overall theme for the upcoming meeting is strategic planning and priority setting for 2015. While there will always be unanticipated developments throughout the year to which the Executive will need to react, our objective is to adopt a somewhat more structured approach to making our community a better place to live, work, play. We look forward to your participation
Nick Xenos, CPCA Environment Committee Coordinator will facilitate, assisted by several other executive members.
Discussion topics will include:

  1. Overall vision for CPCA – who we are, want to be
  2. Key business lines (themes)
  3. Related priorities and activities
  4. What to discuss with our new Councillor, Jeff Leiper
  5. Other Business

Kitchissippi Forum – January 17

Hello Champlain Park Community Association,

Councillor Jeff Leiper will be hosting the first Kitchissippi Forum on January 17, 2015 and we invite your group to provide a brief four minute oral update. We are asking all of the Kitchissippi community associations to use their allotted four minutes to update those in attendance on any issues, projects or events that would be of shared interest to the rest of the ward.

The first quarterly Kitchissippi Forum will take place on January 17, 2015 in the Wellington Room at Hintonburg Community Centre from 1pm to 4pm.

The roundtable format will include: updates from community associations, an update from the Councillor and open question period and, finally, a chance for those in attendance to meet informally to discuss common issues, network or simply socialize.

It is our hope that these quarterly Kitchissippi Forums bring the ward together, one conversation at a time.

We kindly ask that you spread the word to your community and we look forward to seeing you on January 17.

Thank you,

Katie
