A message from Peter Laughton (with minor edits for readability):
Thank-you to all the parents, volunteers, and runners who came out to run and raise money for the Hera Mission this morning. Parents donated their time acting as marshalls on the course, distributed candy medals, and gave out snacks to the runners aged 2-12 years. Through their efforts we raised $950 for important projects in Asembo Bay Kenya. Thanks as well to Carol Arnason and the Champlain Park Community Association for sponsorship and opening up the field house. Thanks to Bushtukah for the tent and prizes and thanks to Jordan from Shopperβs Drug Mart for juice and snacks. Lastly, thanks to the teachers and students of Elmdale school who helped promote the event and came out in record numbers.
Thanks!
Pete

Subject: theft from vehicle
Good afternoon,
I wanted to make sure everyone is aware we have been having an increase of theft from vehicles. The majority of time it is reported that the door was unlocked and the car was searched with no suspects or evidence left behind. I have on occasion had a few people mention that they are certain they locked the car doors but the next day it was still clear to be searched with no damages to the vehicle. There is a lot of speculation that someone out there has a device that will unlock newer model cars that use a fob system. This has not been proven and is just rumors at this time. I did however contact a Honda dealership to discuss this matter and it was suggested that often times Fob remotes are placed in pockets/ purses that have contents in it and may accidentally unlock your doors. It was also mentioned that some of the vehicle have the automatic walk away lock and that a few cars have been reported that this feature was not working. It’s an easy fix and your vehicle can be taken in and diagnosed. This is an option/suggestion only.
I also wanted to remind people that as it is not your fault the vehicles are being broken into I would suggest taking the time to remove your valuables and double check the doors are locked. Below is a link to the web page where you could print your own All Valuables removed cards to display in you windows. They can also be picked up the Community Centre, maybe call in advance to see if someone or is in at the time ext 5871/5870/5290.
It is also import to call in any suspicious persons in your neighbourhood who may be checking car doors or houses by dialing 613-236-1222. Provide a description of the person(s) and last seen location, if you actually see them entre a car door or checking handles this is a crime in progress please dial 911 with your information and keep an eye on the subject(s).
If your vehicle was in fact broken into whether something was taken or not we appreciate you making the on-line report in order for us to gather information on where we need to send officers.
Please feel free to share this email….
Thanks a lot
Dawn
