Online Reporting to the Ottawa Police Service

Subject: Online reporting with Ottawa Police Service
Date: Mon, 18 Jul 2016 14:27:35 -0400
From: Dawn Neilly <wellingtoncpc@gmail.com>

Effective June 27, 2016, the Ottawa Police Service will no longer take reports over the phone for certain complaints. Complainants will be redirected and strongly encouraged to utilize the online reporting application available at http://www.ottawapolice.ca/.

For those complainants who do not have the necessary access and/or ability to submit a report online, a Call Centre agent will take the report by telephone.

Reports affected by this new online reporting feature are:

  • Theft
  • Lost property (with a visible S/N or distinct marking such as a custom engraving)
  • Mischief/damage to property
  • Theft from vehicle
  • Traffic complaints
  • Drug complaints
  • Fraud

Rationale:

The above-indicated reports have been earmarked as exclusive to online reporting. These changes are in accordance with the Service Initiative’s Demand Management Project, which aims to implement strategies and processes to improve demand management through the development and implementation of new business practices.

New Pedestrian Crossing Style

From: Pedestrian Crossover / Passage Piétons <passagepietons@ottawa.ca>
Sent: Fri, Jun 3, 2016 3:47 pm
Subject: New Pedestrian Crossovers in Ottawa / Nouveau passages pour piétons en Ottawa

La version francaise suite:

Hello,

The City of Ottawa is contacting you as stakeholder associated with the use of the City’s road network. With recent Ontario Highway Traffic Act changes there are items that will have an effect on how you or your organization or members will use area roads. Being aware of these changes and responsible for the resulting actions is the responsibility of all road users.

On May 24th, the City of Ottawa will begin an education and awareness campaign to highlight the new Pedestrian Crossovers coming to Ottawa in June of this year. We would appreciate your help in sharing this information with your members, employees, and/or stakeholders.

Pedestrian Crossovers are identified by specific signs and pavement markings, and vehicles (including cyclists) must yield to pedestrians at these locations. The attached e-Poster illustrates the new Pedestrian Crossover. Additional information such as what they are, how they work, and where they are located can be found on http://www.ottawa.ca/

Drivers/Cyclists will be fined $150 to $500 with 3 demerit points for offences at Pedestrian Crossovers. Enforcement of offences at Pedestrian Crossovers will began as soon as they are

The first wave of the new Pedestrian Crossovers will be unveiled in mid- June at low speed, low to medium volume roadways and signal lane roundabouts. Additional sites will be installed throughout the next two years.

The installation of the new Pedestrian Crossovers requires a significant change in travel behaviour for all road users to ensure a safe road environment for pedestrians at these crossings. For this reason, we are making available to you the materials you may need to inform your employees/members of the rules of Pedestrian Crossovers and the associated fines.

Attached for your use is an e-Poster that you can share with your members to help promote awareness. Brochures are also available upon request by contacting me by telephone at 613-580-2424 x13767 or by e-mail at pedestriancrossover@ottawa.ca.

Sincerely,
Rachel Cere

Bonjour,

Please accept this invitation to participate in a Public Advisory Committee Meeting #2 for a Complete Street Project for Richmond Road. This is the second meeting of the Advisory group following the April 25th, 2016 kick-off meeting. Your involvement will help direct the design and implementation of the reconstruction of Richmond Road during the Stage 2 LRT Project, as noted below. Please confirm your attendance by replying to this email. [Editor: reply won’t work, send it to stage2@ottawa.ca]

What: Public Advisory Committee Meeting #2 – Richmond Road Complete Street Study
When: Monday May 30, 2016 at 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Where: Notre Dame High School, 710 Broadview Ave (Library)
– please enter from the parking lot in the back.

Background

The City of Ottawa has identified a requirement for the reconstruction of a section of Richmond Road between the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway and Cleary Avenue as part of the Stage 2 Light Rail Transit Western Extension Project. The design and reconstruction will meet with a “Complete Street” standard, based on the City of Ottawa’s Complete Street Implementation Framework (2015). This will also incorporate the City of Ottawa Cycling Plan (2013), and focus on enhancing multi-modal transportation in this corridor.

The review and design will consider the introduction, rehabilitation and/or replacement of:

· Sidewalks, pathways, cycling, and local transit facilities;
· On-street parking;
· Traffic lane configuration;
· Opportunities for amenities including street furniture, landscaping and public art;
· Street lighting and signage;
· Opportunities to reduce stormwater flows and/or address drainage issues; ;
· Utility reconstruction/relocation as required;
· Traffic control system; and
· Road structure and pavement.

At this meeting we will begin to discuss options, existing conditions and start to gather key input from the invited stakeholders.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions. This will be a brief presentation of the project and information provided on future projects in the area.

Update on Ottawa’s Urban Forest Management Plan

Subject: Fwd: Update on the City of Ottawa’s Urban Forest Management Plan project
Date: Wed, 27 Apr 2016 16:26:02 -0400
From: Heather Pearl <hpearl2012@gmail.com>

Here is an update on the project to develop an Urban Forest Management Plan. The city-wide high level of public interest in protecting what is left of the urban forest, and reversing the unsustainable, severe, cumulative losses to the tree canopy that occurred during the past seven years, has crystalized around this project.

The Phase I Stakeholder Consultation Report summarising the input from last fall’s public consultations is now posted on the Forestry Web page.

Hello;

I am writing to give you an update on the City of Ottawa’s Urban Forest Management Plan.

Our consultants have been working on the draft plan throughout the winter and early spring. It will be submitted to city staff for review soon. We will make it available to the public later this summer in preparation for the Phase 2 consultations which will take place in late September / early October. The dates for the Phase 2 consultations will be finalized early this summer.

Please keep your eye on http://ottawa.ca/urbanforest for the draft plan and the dates for the consultations this fall. The Phase 1 Stakeholder Consultation Report is also available there. The report outlines the feedback collected at the visioning sessions that were held last November and through the surveys submitted at that time.

I will send the information about the fall consultations to this list, as soon as we’ve got our plans finalized.

Thank you for your continued interest in this important project.

Cycling in the City Newsletter

The city’s cycling newsletter April edition http://cityofottawa.activehosted.com/index.php?action=social&chash=0e3a37aa85a14e359df74fa77eded3f6.1515&ref=twitter has a few items that may be of interest.

Locally, there’s a bit on “Byron Avenue Traffic Calming & Advisory Bicycle Lanes”.

The “New safe crossings of Carling Avenue and Bronson Avenue” mean you can now cycle along the parkway, get off at Bayview (Prince of Wales railway bridge) and cycle all the way to Dow’s Lake; the cycle path runs parallel to Preston Street and along-side the O-Train line. You can now easily cycle downtown along canal paths or to Carleton University.

Other topics worth mentioning are the Winter Biking Survey and Bike to Work Month in May.
