What: Public event to hear about the unique features of a heritage elm tree at risk on Parliament Hill

When: Sunday February 10, 2019, 2:30 p.m. — 3:20 p.m.

Where: Elm tree located east of Centre Block on Parliament Hill

Who:

  • Representatives of the Greenspace Alliance of Canada’s Capital
  • Owen Clarkin, chair of conservation committee, Ottawa Field Naturalists Club

Come to a gathering at the base of the elm tree to learn from Owen Clarkin’s extensive knowledge of native trees and about what the Greenspace Alliance of Canada’s Capital and other groups are doing to press for protection of a heritage elm on Parliament Hill.

Hi Gardeners:

The next meeting of the Champlain Park Garden Club is on Tuesday, Feb. 12th 26th. Our speaker this time is Dr. Ernie Brodo who is a leading world expert on lichens. He will talk to us specifically about lichens found in Ontario. The meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. in the field house in Champlain Park, corner of Cowley and Clearview.

Drop in fee is $5.00 – all are welcome.

Elmdale BookFest 2019 – February 22-23

BookFest, Elmdale Public School’s iconic annual second-hand book sale, is an opportunity to find a great read while supporting a good cause. With more than 25,000 titles there’s something for everyone, all at very low prices (cash only). Complete with raffles and a bake sale.

BookFest 2019 will take place in Elmdale Public School’s gymnasium (49 Iona St. – enter from Java St.) on Fri., Feb. 22, 9:00am to 9:00pm, and on Sat., Feb. 23, 9:00am to 4:00pm.
