Hi Gardeners:
The next meeting of the Champlain Park Garden Club is Tuesday, October 9th when our speaker will be Joan Johnston from Peter Knippel Nursery. Joan will guide us through the proper and the not-so-correct methods of pruning – always a welcome lesson. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. in the field house in Champlain Park, corner of Cowley and Clearview.
Laurie would like to remind you about submitting photos to her (lfagan@magma.ca) for our annual club slide show in December when members present some of their favourite shots from the past year.
Hope to see you there

Election of Officers and Call for Volunteers
With the Champlain Park Community Association annual general meeting coming soon (October 23), it’s time to ask for volunteers to help our community as a board member. Of course, informal volunteering to help with an event or other activity is always welcome.
- You can ask to be nominated for any of the listed board positions.
- Names of current nominees are listed on the chart. Most are current Board members who are willing to stay on. However, all positions are open to further nominations.
- We have a position called “Member at Large”. This allows people to be on the board without a specific “portfolio” and to contribute in a variety of ways as per your interests. Some of our current board members started as Member at Large and then “specialized”.
- Please see the organizational chart to get some ideas of how you might contribute if you are interested in becoming a board member or other type of CPCA volunteer. Note the chart will be updated after elections at the AGM.
- If you are thinking of joining the board in the future, attending some of our open executive meetings (advertised on our website) is a good way to familiarize yourself with the work of the community association.
- The next Board meeting is Wed. Oct. 10 @ 7:30PM in the fieldhouse.

The Future of Ottawa’s Rosemount Library is NOW!
The revitalization of the Rosemount Branch of the Ottawa Public Library (OPL) begins this Wednesday evening, October 3rd, from 6 to 8 pm at the Rosemount Branch Library (18 Rosemount Ave). The community is invited to meet with the architects to provide input at an OPEN HOUSE. The Rosemount Expansion and Development (READ) community group believes now is the crucial time for the Kitchissippi community to have their say. The revitalization is urgently needed to ensure that Rosemount will meet the demands of the vibrant, growing Kitchissippi neighbourhood. READ’s hope is that the library will be redesigned so it becomes an innovative, interactive and integrated community hub.

Bus Route Changes Survey
This is a slightly political message, but it’s worth posting since the recent bus route changes are of local concern. Problems with the new routes (such as not fully connecting across downtown Ottawa) have lead to this survey to get feedback to present to municipal candidates, and to the formation of the Ottawa Transit Riders’ Group.
