Please see the message below or the attached press release sent on behalf of the Rosemount Expansion and Development Group (READ).
The Future of Ottawa’s Rosemount Library is NOW!
The revitalization of the Rosemount Branch of the Ottawa Public Library (OPL) begins this Wednesday evening, October 3rd, from 6 to 8 pm at the Rosemount Branch Library (18 Rosemount Ave). The community is invited to meet with the architects to provide input at an OPEN HOUSE. The Rosemount Expansion and Development (READ) community group believes now is the crucial time for the Kitchissippi community to have their say. The revitalization is urgently needed to ensure that Rosemount will meet the demands of the vibrant, growing Kitchissippi neighbourhood. READ’s hope is that the library will be redesigned so it becomes an innovative, interactive and integrated community hub.
For the past several years, READ has advocated for Rosemount’s expansion and redevelopment. It has underlined the need to have adequate space for books and materials, browsing, individual and group use, quiet contemplation, community gatherings and staff work spaces. It believes that expanded programs and services will allow Rosemount to better serve the high-needs and vulnerable groups and individuals in the community. READ also feels that Rosemount will succeed by continuing to foster productive community partnerships and maximizing its services through efficient use of staff resources and extended hours.
This revitalization of Rosemount Branch is important. Rosemount has been an OPL Board capital priority for more than five years. It has the HIGHEST circulation of items per square foot of all the 33 OPL branches. It is a busy and very crowded branch that serves the 40,000 residents of Kitchissippi ward. Optimally, Rosemount needs 10,000 sq. ft. to serve the residents in its catchment area and put it on a par with similar branches in the OPL system. But beyond the space itself, there are other ways to improve services for Rosemount patrons, such as by expanding hours (Sundays and Friday mornings) to meet the demands of its users.
Kitchissippi residents can now have their say by filling out the 7 minute OPL bilingual survey (https://biblioottawalibrary.ca/en/rosemount-revitalization) and by attending the OPL Open House at the Rosemount Branch this Wednesday evening, October 2 from 6-8 pm. The time to plan for the future of Rosemount Library has come.
