The WVCA’s statement made to the Citizen on the proposed development:

“The Wellington Village Community Association welcomes quality
development and good design and what we have seen so far from Mizrahi
Developments impresses us.  But, we want to be very clear that is our
preferred option that the developer respect the CDP which has just
recently taken effect.  This is the same CDP that the WVCA,
Councillor Hobbs and City Council supported. ”

Pipeline Wine & Cheese January 20 2014

If so YOU’RE INVITED to a friendly social event Jwhere our elected officials from all three levels of government will be available to chat and will each say a few words about the pipeline.

It takes place January 20th at 7pm Charles Hodgson’s home here in Champlain Park. Ottawa City Councillor Katherine Hobbs; Ontario Minister of Labour Yasir Naqvi; and Member of Parliament for Ottawa Center Paul Dewar will all be in attendance.

Scott Street Complete Street

Dear Residents of Hintonburg, Mechanicsville, Wellington Village and Champlain Park,

Throughout the Scott Street Community Design Plan process, I heard from hundreds of residents and while there were many opinions on other issues, people were united in their desire for a complete street for Scott Street. That’s why improving Scott Street has been identified as a community benefit priority in the Scott Street Community Design Plan to be considered by Planning Committee on December 10th.

I committed to you at our last public meeting on November 13th that I would ensure that the public benefit components, including a complete street on Scott, would become a reality, and today we took the first step toward that reality.

Today at the City’s Finance and Economic Development Committee (FEDCO), I successfully had a motion passed that will be the first step toward a complete street for Scott Street. The motion borrows $1,000,000 from the City’s Cash-in-lieu of parkland city-wide fund, to be repaid from Section 37 benefits from development in the Scott Street area. The motion had to be walked-on today because the next FEDCO meeting is not until February, and such a delay would have threatened the viability of the initiative.

The LRT will already be paying to move the poles for their detour. These funds will be used to top up the existing LRT budget to upgrade the poles to self-supporting poles, removing guy wires from the green boulevard on the north side of Scott, allowing for a safe and appropriately designed cycling track and pedestrian facilities.

This creates the necessary conditions for a complete street on Scott Street, allowing us to move forward quickly after LRT construction is complete.

I want to thank you all once again for your hours of volunteer time spent working with us on the Scott Street CDP, and I look forward to continue working with you to make the vision for this area a reality.

Rosemount Library to Expand

[Rosemount Library in Ottawa]

Rosemount Library is 95 years old today! At a ceremony this afternoon I announced expansion plans for Rosemount and I wanted to share this early news with all in Kitchissippi. I requested that the Rosemount branch be listed in the budget as one of the priorities for renovation.

With the approval of the Ottawa Public Library 2014 budget this week, funding was included for Rosemount to be expanded. Please check back on my website as more information is forthcoming.

When you visit the library please take the time to fill out a Post-It note to say what you would like to see, so that your voice will go into the planning of the facility improvements.

The Zoning Consistency Team from the Planning & Growth Management Department (City of Ottawa) is pleased to announce a new zoning study regarding local commercial shops and services.

All registered community groups from the study area (Wards 12, 13,14,15,17 and 18) are receiving notice through this e-mail and I invite you to review the details of the study and participate through the online questionnaire in the website identified below. Please feel free to forward this e-mail to any interested parties.

Zoning Study on Local Shops and Services in Residential Neighbourhoods

Is there a corner store or shop in your neighbourhood?

Would it be convenient to have a neighbourhood store providing goods and services in your community?

We want to hear your views on this important zoning study that will determine appropriate locations for local commercial zoning within existing residential neighbourhoods.

Existing small shops, such as convenience stores, barbers, laundromats, florists and cafés, are often located in residential areas. Current zoning may not permit these businesses beyond what currently exists. This study will consider rezoning these sites, where appropriate, to permit the businesses to continue to contribute to their community.

The study will also consider possible new locations for, scale of, and provisions for, neighbourhood-focused commercial uses that might fall between a home-based business and a full-fledged retail store.

You are encouraged to visit the website at www.ottawa.ca/neighbourhoodstores for more information, and to provide your views through an online questionnaire from November 21, 2013 to January 31, 2014.
