FCA-FAC General Meeting Wed. Jan. 17, 2018

On January 17 an FCA-FAC General Meeting will be held at Kitchissippi United Church with an Arts and Culture theme.

In accordance with our custom at the first meeting of the new year, the meeting will feature “speed-dating”, a series of simultaneous small group interviews with invited experts. Meeting attendees rotate from expert to expert making contacts and learning of various topics of interest to communities.

Convent Development Open House – January 10

Ashcroft Homes Convent Development Open House

Ashcroft Homes is proposing an adaptive re-use of Les Soeurs de la Visitation Convent at their 114 Richmond Rd site, which would see the building partially demolished and encapsulated in glass, combining heritage and modern elements. The refreshed convent would see office tenants and mixed commercial. We invite you to join us to learn more about this proposed development during a community open house:

Information on the proposed development will be available from Ashcroft Homes, and City of Ottawa staff in both Heritage and Planning will be on hand to field additional questions.

CPCA Treasurer Position Open

This position is central to our ability to carry out the association’s business and activities. We are currently without a volunteer.

Duties: Board Member who oversees the financial business of the CPCA; writes cheques and receives monies related to our activities; does the banking and book-keeping; prepares budget in consultation with the Board; prepares annual financial report for AGM.

Training and assistance will be provided to the new volunteer.

Rideau-Rockcliffe Community Resource Centre, the Ottawa Gang Strategy and Somerset West Community Health Centre, are inviting you to participate to the Post-Incident Neighbourhood Support Framework Protocol Training.

Councilor Jeff Leiper’s office is the lead for this protocol in the Kitchissippi area and will be attending.

The Post-Incident Neighbourhood Support Framework is a guide to how communities across Ottawa can engage community leaders and service providers to coordinate support and resources to neighbourhoods impacted by violent or traumatic incidents (also referred to as a critical incident).
The Framework is intended to aid in reducing distress and restore cohesion, and ultimately reduce fear, assist in recovery, and build community resiliency.

The Champlain Park Garden Club has many extra bundles of boughs left over from the two wreath making workshops this past weekend. They are nice for a mantle or decorate your railing and the smell is incredible.

Rosemount Library Update

Subject: Rosemount Library Renovation – READ Response

Good evening,

We are writing to update the community associations in the Rosemount catchment area on the status of the library’s redevelopment.

In October, the OPL Board made the unfortunate decision to renovate rather than expand the Rosemount Library. READ is disappointed with this result. In our view, the community is already underserved and a superficial renovation does not address the community’s current and future needs.

Cuts for Kids – November 26

via Lorrie Marlow (Mechanicsville Community Association), Van Lang field house is near the Westboro bus station:

Cuts for Kids foundation along with local Westboro salon “West Side Spa” and West Wellington barber “Hair Fellas” are providing free hair cuts to local kids. There will be sports games, pizza and Hip Hop performances on Sunday Nov 26 from 1 to 4pm. Last haircut at 3pm.
