Felt artist Maggie Glossop has kindly agreed to offer a felt art workshop at our field house on Saturday April 11, from noon until 4.

In the workshop you will arrange natural and dyed wool fibres to create an image (landscape, still life, abstract) and then using the ancient technique of wet felting, cause all the fibres to bond together to form a piece of felted fabric. (See photos, click for larger version)

Maggie will provide all the materials and equipment needed to create your own piece of art.

Cost of the workshop is $75.00.

Space is limited so contact Laurie lauriefagan59@gmail.com ASAP if you want to sign up.

You may know Maggie’s work as she was one of the artists from the Christmas craft show last December at the field house. You may also know her outdoor work as she is the creator of those whimsical sculpted snow bears that have delighted folks for years on various trails in Kitchissippi ward.

It is such a treat to have her lead such a workshop.

Forest Artists with Don Monet

Are you a struggling student artist? Work with a pro and help your neighbourhood too by documenting the amazing green transformation going on right here in Champlain Park.

If you have been down to the river you will have seen the pollinator garden at the end of Carleton, and the “Tiny Forest” that has popped up along Pontiac.

There are other delights in the woods too that are the fruit of local volunteers with the Champlain Park Community Association.

We would like your help (photographers, painters, sculptors, etc.) to showcase the plant biodiversity and volunteer spirit we are bringing into the neighbourhood.

Don Monet, painter and owner of Ottawa’s CUBE Gallery, lives here too and would be happy to mentor or otherwise support you in a local art project focused on the green transformation. If interested, contact Daniel Buckles (daniel.buckles@gmail.com) for a virtual introduction to Don.

Calling all young artists for Young at Art 2013

Visual artists between 12 to 19 years of age as of January 1, 2013 who live or go to school in Ottawa are eligible to enter Young at Art.

Wouldn’t it be fantastic if a young artist from Champlain Park won this?

Young at Art is a juried art exhibition that brings the work of young visual artists to local art galleries across the City of Ottawa. The exhibition, held annually since 1996, represents a tremendous opportunity for the public exhibition and recognition of the creative efforts of these young local artists. Creators of accepted works will have their pieces displayed in a community gallery – often near where they live – and are eligible for a number of prizes and awards contributed by the City of Ottawa and Young at Art Sponsors.

For deadlines, registration, and program details please refer to the Young at Art Details
