Just three blocks of trees in Champlain Park bring an annual flow of financial benefits to residents of $41,924 (using the USDA Forestry Services i-Tree benefits calculator). Imagine the flow of benefits of all the trees in the neighbourhood!

The Neighbourwoods in Champlain Park tree inventory has produced two interesting infographics, showing the size and diversity of trees, and the financial benefits to residents in the form of energy saved, storm water filtered, air quality improved, and carbon stored. Check it out, and save by saving our trees!

This meeting has it all! Join us at the Champlain Park Fieldhouse on February 15 (Thursday) at 7 pm to hear from the Ottawa Renewable Energy Co-op how they contribute to building a local energy supply through smart investments.

We will also learn from a neighbour that has been benefiting for years from a roof-top solar system you may want to install yourself

Champlain Park Community Association (CPCA) Executive Meeting Open Session

Exec meetings will have an open session for community residents to observe exec business discussions. Non exec community members will also be invited to participate at certain times by the chair and there will be “in camera” topics for the executive only.

Open session (Approx 1 hour)

  1. Approval of previous minutes of executive meeting Nov 28, 2017, and review of action items – All
  2. Report of interim executive motions – All
  3. Introduction of Treasurer – CoChair1 -Information (5 minutes)
  4. Park Grants for Events – Jennie – Decision (20 minutes)
    Does any one know whether the CPCA would qualify for one of these grants if we apply. The information I could find about them looked interesting – and I thought that if we could get something like this, it might also build our membership.  https://parkpeople.ca/parkgrants/
  5. Sub-committee decision-making – Daniel – Decision (7 minutes)
    A short review of procedures for sub-committee endorsements of initiatives and positions, as a sub-committee and/or as the executive committee. What do people expect from sub-committees that want to move forward on an activity?
  6. Web/communication system – Daniel – Information (4 minutes)
    I’d like to see an upgrade that would allow the use of list serves for communication. Could we have a brief recap and discussion of needs and options?
  7. Ideas for spending the $500 donation – CoChair1 – Decision (5 minutes)
    See attached file of suggestions Allocating $500 From CPCA minutes Nov 2017. Ideas have to be prioritized somehow by someone. Ideas have to be costed – possibly by asking suggestors to submit a project proposal with costs attached.

Winter Carnival Thanks

The carnival organizers would like to thank:

  • Jason Keats for his delightful balloon animals.
  • Jim Kot for preparing and supervising the rink.
  • Linda Landreville and Kathy Kot for working the coffee and ticket tables.
  • Dennis Van Staalduinen for donating gift cards for the chili cook off.
  • All the Champlain Park residents that contributed baked goods and chili.

We’d also like to thank Carol Arnason (Social event coordinator) and the community Winter Carnival event organizers Natalie Raffoul and Sarah Kotyck for putting the whole thing together.

Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus Info Session – January 31

Dear Friends,

As many of you may know, the Ottawa Hospital has begun the planning process for the development of a new regional trauma and acute care centre at the former site of the Sir John Carling building to replace the existing Civic Campus, which has been in operation since 1924. Public engagement so far has included a third-party report on engagement, a series of community feedback sessions, and the launch of a website devoted to sharing information and soliciting ideas. I encourage you all to get engaged and share your ideas and priorities for the new campus.

Please note that the Ottawa Hospital will host a public information session this Wednesday to present an update on hospital services planned for the new campus and the background journey to an architectural design concept.
