Subj: Construction on the Innovation Centre at Bayview Yards Kicks Off in August!

Good afternoon,

I hope all is well with you, and that you are enjoying the summer! As you may know, I have the pleasure of serving as a Director of the Innovation Centre at Bayview Yards currently under development in our neighborhood at 7 Bayview Road. It will be the first entrepreneurship hub of its kind in Ottawa – and it will be located right in our backyard!

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am excited to announce that construction of this novel facility is just around the corner! On August 5th, our design/build team led by Morley Hoppner will initiate the renovation of this building and transform it into the future Innovation Centre at Bayview Yards. As this unique heritage building will be located in the heart of our community, we wanted to share important information on the construction process over the next few months and what this will mean to you – our neighbors, fellow residents and future stakeholders of the Innovation Centre!

Please find attached a construction notice and backgrounder that can be shared with members of your community. This information is also posted on the Innovation Centre website: http://www.thebayviewyards.com/, and we will be tweeting it shortly. You can follow us at:@IC_BayviewYards!

Lastly, we will be hosting a community information session this fall and look forward to sharing details about this special event in the weeks ahead. Should you have any questions about construction or the Innovation Centre more broadly, please do not hesitate to contact myself, or Sonya Shorey, our Communications Strategist at 613.851.9416 or sonyashorey@rogers.com

Many thanks, and have a great holiday weekend!

Best regards,

Ian

Winston Square Grand Opening – June 6

From: Jennifer.Falconer@ottawa.ca
Subject: Winston Square Grand Opening
Date: Wed, 3 Jun 2015 20:43:00 +0000

WinstonSquare.jpegPress Release

For months the buzz has been building, and we’re a few short days away from the Winston Square urban park grand opening! The whole city is invited to the party on June 6 at 388 Richmond Road

Join Councillor Jeff Leiper, Mayor Jim Watson, the Westboro Village Business Improvement Area, and special guests to officially open the space. There will be musical performances, activities and more for much of the day, and the official ribbon-cutting happens at 2:00. See you there!

Winston Square is the first of its kind in Ottawa: a disused right-of-way repurposed to create a dynamic urban space for gathering in the heart of Westboro. The space combines a sleek, modern design with an architectural theme mimicking the rooflines of the homes along Winston Avenue, joining the square to the community. In the spring, the living walls are now coming to life and, in the fall, the Virginia Creeper ivy will be ablaze in oranges and reds. Permanent fixtures and moveable furniture will invite guests to make themselves at home in the Square, and the addition of a custom-designed chandelier later this summer, celebrating the flora and animals indigenous to the Ward, will add a warm, welcoming glow.

The Facts

What: A new urban park in the heart of Westboro that will be programmed with music, crafts, and entertainment all summer long by the Westboro Village BIA. The park had its genesis in a request by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 480 to beautify the right-of-way space next to its building. Community consultations resulted in the beautiful oasis now being opened.

Where: Adjacent to the Westboro Legion at 391 Richmond Road

How: The Winston Square Park was paid for through $420,000 cash-in-lieu-of-parkland funding from the Councillor’s office.

Walkability Audit for Albert and Scott Streets – May 25

Last fall’s audit was discussed in a previous post.

Last Pedestrian Safety Walkability Audit, Albert and Scott Streets

Anyone available to help either at 2 pm or 4:30pm on Monday, May 25 – we only have 1 person confirmed. Please let me know if you can help.
RSVP: cheryl.vance@sympatico.ca

Monday May 25 – 2 pm for Albert St and at 4:30pm for Scott St.

We partnered with the Council on Aging and Good Companions Senior Centre to pilot an all season Pedestrian Safety Walkability Audit of Albert and Scott. The last audit is scheduled for Monday May 25. As in the past there will be 2 parts – Albert Street and Scott Street.

We plan to meet at The Good Companions for a 2 p.m. start along Albert Street, and at the Tom Brown Arena for a later start at 4:30 p.m. along the Scott Street route – on Monday, May 25th. If you can join us for either or both of these audits please let us know.

On the Scott St side a number of sidewalk hazards were identified and sent to the City in the first audit. Those sidewalk/trip hazards have just recently been marked in orange paint for repair.

The widening of Scott St. is expected to start soon – perhaps in May. The contract for the work should awarded soon.

The collected data from three Ottawa neighbourhood walkability audits will be part of an All-Seasons Pedestrian Safety Report developed in partnership with Ecology Ottawa.

Hope to see you there. Please RSVP so we know how many people we will have.

Cheryl
