In other news, there’s a service available for redesigning public spaces with an eye towards crime prevention. From https://onwec.com/2017/02/21/cpted-crime-prevention-through-environmental-design/

Hi All

Please forward to your BIA’s, Community Associations
My name is Constable Matt Hunt and I am the new CPTED coordinator for the Ottawa Police.  CPTED is Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design.  Proper design and effective use of space improves the quality of life for the community and can assist with crime prevention.  We offer a free service where we conduct an audit of your space (retail, condo, library, school, etc) and suggest ways it could be made safer.  We will provide you with a copy of the audit and a follow-up call in six months to see how things are going.  For more information of to book an audit please contact me directly at 613-236-1222 ex. 2319 or huntm2@ottawapolice.ca.

Subject: So excited! Police online reporting workshop April 11th @ Innovation Center
Date: Tue, 7 Feb 2017 14:19:39 -0500
From: Lorrie Marlow <morrielarlow@gmail.com>

See the poster attached from Constable Neilly, please print and post in your buildings and on your social media. Also please forward to anyone that may be interested in attending or hosting a similar workshop. As MCA has learned at the Police Services Review, they want everyone to report online any suspicious activity and less urgent stuff. Telephone reporting will eventually be just for the immediate emergencies.

We want our residents to be comfortable with online reporting and hope this will encourage everyone to report suspicious activity in Mechanicsville.

Mark this on your calender! A free workshop on police reporting online in the new, high-tech training room at the Innovation Center at 7pm on April 11th…send the kids and then they can show you! Brought to you by the Mechanicsville Community Association and Constable Neilly! Everyone welcome!

FYI: after this workshop will be the Mechanicsville Community Association AGM, the AGM poster to come!

I cant believe we got this off the ground!!! We may have to bake some cookies and get coffee donated for this event!!!
