Leaf Drop Done!

From: Daniel Buckles <dbuckles@sas2.net>

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Neighbours collected and dropped off more than 130 bags of neighbourhood leaves at the community gardens and tiny forest along Pontiac. That is all we need for this season. Anyone can complete the cycle by picking up and reusing the empty leaf bags from the stash in my front driveway (Daniel Avenue).

By repurposing collected leaves, we have mulched the thin and nutrient-poor soil along Pontiac, giving a leg-up to the trees planted there. We’ve also kept almost a ton of sunlight and photosynthesized carbon in the neighbourhood, and reduced the number of trips made by the waste removal trucks.

We still need your help this season. Please consider taking some time to move the remaining bags to the east end (Northwestern end) of Pontiac. Dump and distribute them on the bare ground areas there.

I moved about half the bags today, and had fun kicking the leaves into smaller clumps (about 2 inch depth decomposes well). I’m pooped, however, so look to neighbours to complete the job.
