SJAM Parkway Closed this Weekend

The NCC says that the SJAM parkway will be closed this weekend (between Island Park and Booth), for a bridge replacement in the LeBreton Flats area. This includes the “pilot” project of letting people walk & bike on the westbound lanes on the weekend, but not this weekend. Their press release text:

Closure of the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway, between Island Park and Booth

The National Capital Commission (NCC) would like to advise the public that it will close a section of the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway to both motor vehicle traffic and active users (pedestrians and cyclists), in both directions, between Island Park Drive and Booth Street, from Friday, October 2, ย 6 pm, Sunday, October 4, 2020, 6 pm.

This closure is required to prepare the work to connect the new LeBreton Bridge to the current alignment of the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway.

Throughout this period, motor vehicle traffic will be able to use a detour via Somerset Street to avoid the work area.

Impacts to the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway Pilot Project

During the work, on Saturday, October 3, and Sunday, October 4, between 8 am and 4 pm, the pilot project on the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway westbound will be reduced to the section between Carling Avenue and Island Park Drive.

Between Island Park Drive and Booth Street, active users will be able to use a detour leading to the Ottawa River Pathway to get around the work site.

The NCC urges motorists, cyclists and pedestrians to exercise caution, respect working crews and equipment, use the detours and obey signage and flag persons on-site.

The NCC will continue to inform the public of upcoming closures needed throughout October to reach project completion when they are confirmed.

This project is part of the NCCโ€™s major infrastructure projects following the Government of Canadaโ€™s $55-million investment in the 2018 federal budget.
