NCC Bike Days revised hours along Kichi Zībī Mīkan

The National Capital Commission has announced the NCC Weekend Bike Days for 2025. The Champlain Park Traffic Safety Committee is pleased to say that the bike days along the Kichi Zībī Mīkan will be on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 8:00 to noon, As per the announcement below, the bike days start on May 10th this year and continue to October 13.

We hope that by the bikedays ending at noon as opposed to 5:00 pm, we will avoid the congestion problems we have seen over the past couple of years. The Traffic Safety Committee will monitor the situation and report any issues to the NCC, the City or Police as we deem necessary.

As always, traffic safety is the concern of all of us, so if you see something the police need to be aware of, please use the following link to submit a report to the Ottawa Police Service, in the Traffic Complaint category. https://www.ottawapolice.ca/en/reports-and-requests/file-a-report.aspx

    1. Thanks for your comments but this is a joint effort with other Community Associations as well. I will pass along your gratitude.

  1. I truly understand the inconvenience caused by cut through traffic as I have experienced it myself. But I am disappointed to see a decrease in the hours the parkway is closed to traffic and thereby facilitating active transportation. This sends the wrong message. In this climate crisis it is discouraging to see the car win once again. This change is certainly not unanimously supported by members of this community.

    1. Thanks TP for your response. Sadly the car is going to win in the majority of circumstances until we have different levels of governments who are willing to change their priorities. What has been achieved here is moving the cars who are using our neighbourhood as a thoroughfare onto the roads which are designed for that purpose, increasing the safety of our residents.

I would be happy to hear of any suggestions you might have. You can email me directly at director4cpca@gmail.com, or in the next few weeks a survey will be going out from the CP Traffic Safety Committee. Also, we are looking for volunteers for our committee, perhaps you would consider volunteering.

      Thanks again for your comments
