Tips and Resources

Wondering what City programs are available? Want to choose your own tree species? Interested in a deeper dive into the health benefits of trees? Following links below for more.

Planting Programs

The City of Ottawa, Ecology Ottawa, Forêt Capital Forest, and other groups offer advice and resources to plant trees on private and public lands.

Ottawa’s Trees in Trust PDF tells you how to get on the list to have a free, street-side tree planted. The program is popular, so sign up early for fall 2022!

Choose your Own

The Ottawa Urban Tree Manual, drafted by the Glebe Community Association and CAFES, offers detailed descriptions of trees adapted to Ottawa, and tips on selection.

See too our hyper-local guide to planting trees in small places and Rockcliffe Park’s database of Ottawa Native Trees, Shrubs and Vines.

Trees and Health

City of Ottawa Public Health is a champion of trees as a cost effective way to support health, by reducing heat island effects and stress. Find out more here.

This is a project of the Champlain Park Community Association, in partnership with the CAFES neighbourhood tree canopy network.
